I have a GOSM vertical cabinet style gasser that has worked great for me. I can get the temps low enough for salmon and plenty hot to crisp up chicken skin. I have not done any modifications to my unit. It maintains the temp easily so I'm not spending all my time running back and forth...
I just followed the link and read the article that Carrol posted where dryer sheets are used to loosen the crud. I think I'm going to give that a try this weekend.
Andy.
Dan,
Welcome to the SMF party.
If you think you have a lot of family and friends now, just keep smoking and they'll keep popping up! Just make sure you have plenty of food on hand .

First, welcome the SMF. When you have a chance, please go over to the Roll Call area and post an introduction for a proper welcome.
Regarding the sheet metal for the conversion. You can get sheet aluminum at Home Depot or Lowes which you could use. they also sell aluminum diamond plate which...
Taking a baby step or two I did buy a 12" cast iron frying pan yesterday. I have a 10" but that's only used for corn bread so the 12" will go into general use. The funny thing is when I started pulling all the stuff we have from various drawers and cabinets we actually have some great stuff...
Wow! First, thanks to everyone for all the input.
When I got home tonight I took an inventory of what we plan to keep and an initial list of what I'd like to have, i.e. what kinds of cooking do I want to do that I cannot do with what we have. I kinda like to idea of filling in the holes...
Martin & Scarbelly,
Curious, what's your dislike with the glass lids? I have one saute pan with a glass lid but I don't use it too much so I haven't got a feeling one way or the other. My only concern with the glass is it would be more fragile. What else??
Curt.
I know this isn't a "real" smoking question but since we have to cook other things than just smoked stuff I thought the forum could give me some advice. We've collected a variety of pots and pans in our kitchen over the past 35+ years, some okay and some not so good. Wifey and I decided to...
Paul,
Welcome to the SMF party.
Be sure to check out the free e-course; http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/f/127/5-day-smoking-basics-ecourse.
It's a great place to hang out.

Holy guacamole Batman!
Whatever the outcome or design, this will be a smoker for the ages. I'm thinking you guys north of the border are crazy .
Like piaconis posted, I"M IN!
Curt.
We send quite a few parts out for powder coating at my office and I'd be concerned about the temps for the smoker vs. the curing temp for the powder. If I remember correctly the curing temp - the temp the powder melts to form the homogeneous film - is right under 400 degrees F. I'd be sure to...
Kevin,
Nice! Two new NorCal smokers joining the party and both named Kevin - Kevin from San Jose checked-in about 2 hours ago.
Welcome!
I have a stainless GOSM propane smoker that I really like. Big enough to do 30+ lbs. of butt for our Christmas party and easy to control the temps. I...
I'm a rookie at this bee keeping but last year a neighbor was asking around for a place to put another hive and I offered our place. We have the hive behind a large wood pile with our koi pond nearby so they are really going. It is amazing to stand close enough to see the returning bees with...
