Long Island, NY - First Time Smoker

Hi All, My name is Frank. I'm from Long Island, and I've never smoked anything until today. For my 40th B-Day I was given a Perfect Flame vertical(propane) smoker. So, today I smoked (2) racks of baby back ribs and (4) meatloafs, and used mesquite (soaked) wood chips. It was definitely a...

Does it matter how I stack the meat in racks?

Mikey - I would agree with you about keeping the loafs on the bottom racks, but there is the wood chip box as well as a water pan above the heat source. My thought is that the heat goes up the sides to the top. Again, just guessing.

Does it matter how I stack the meat in racks?

It's a Perfect Flame, propane vertical smoker. This is only the first time I'm using it....I don't have any meat temp gauges as of yet.

Does it matter how I stack the meat in racks?

Part of me thinks the top 2 racks are more appropriate for the meatloafs, since heat rises, it maybe be hotter at the top. Just guessing.

Does it matter how I stack the meat in racks?

First time smoker - No smoke after and hour...

Pineywoods - If you mean a temp gauge, that's on the front door of the smoker. If you mean a meat thermometer.....I don't have one yet.

First time smoker - No smoke after and hour...

    * Smoker is propane. * Yes, I did soak my chips for 20-30 min. * The wood box is right ablove the burner. ......still no smoke. My guess is that there is not enough air flow. I could be wrong, though.

How many hours can I expect from a propane tank?

Thanks, guys!! 30 hrs is great considering how much meat I can actually get in the smoker....I have 4 racks in my vertical smoker, so I'll be loading it up pretty good!! Can't wait!! Thanks again!

Hi All! Newbie here! I just got my 1st smoker..It's a Perfect Flame Vertical smoker. I'm in the middle of planning out a full day of smoking ribs, chicken, etc...and was wondering how many hours I can expect to get out of a typical BBQ propane tank?
