    Dry Run

    Doing a dry run on my UDS and have a question ... My smoker likes 225* or 250* and is very touchy in between. I guess a 25* variance isn't really all that bad .. Is this sound about right? 250 with 1 and 1/2 vents open, 225 with 1 to 1 1/8 open. Thanks

    My New Craigslist UDS.

    Inside the drum, put a small peice of metal around the hole to use as a backer...pop rivit in place. Now you can replace the cut out and rivit it in place sealing all with Silicone.

    OK ... I suggest that unless you run out rigger wheels or a dolly, then use 4 casters under the UDS...I brazed up the holes for the three and re positioned and redrilled putting 4, 3in casters under my UDS and it's much more stable ...     Another dumb question ... are you using multiple temp gauges like one in the center (IE Turkey fryer 12") and another short probe for edge temps or a sit on the grill gauge?

    Well I created myself some extra work as I only put three wheels under the UDS...not real stable so tomorrow I'll remove two, braze up the holes and put a total of four under the smoker... should be more stable that way.

    Dumb Question (easier than dumb mistakes)

    How many of you guys elevate the ash pan off the drum bottom...If so why. I was planning to set the ash pan directly on the drum floor and was told there needed to be an air gap. Coal basket is on 3 in legs.

    UDS Blasting Question

    I use a #4 blast sand with a respirator. It's about 8.95 per 100# bags.
