new pellet from Pit Boss Whiskey Still style

Haha...just grabbed a Copperhead 5 to go along with my current 700FB. Didn't need it, but couldn't pass it up at $199. It'll sit in the box for a little bit, as I still have a good foot of snow on my deck, but I look forward to messing with it shortly down the road.

    Pellet Grill Advice

I've had a Pit Boss 700 for a little over two years, and am quite happy with it. Had some issues early on that the vendor was quick to resolve. I agree with the previous comment regarding ash cleanout. The only thing you'll be able to "quick" clean out is the fire pot itself, any my...

I joined #PITBOSSNATION ... already thinking of mods?

Welcome! I've had a Pit Boss 700FB for a little over two years, and love it. Only mod I've done to mine is to put a shelf on front, using these brackets: The shelf has proven to be beneficial time and time again - dunno how I ever got by without it there. EDIT: Apparently, I can't link to...

    Asking for possible improvements

I know you said improvements on the pellet delivery system, but I have a different thought..maybe it's stupid. But what about a gasket and/or latch on the hopper lid, to prevent the pellets from getting wet?

    Storing pellets.

Same here. At my peak, I had about a dozen or more of them stacked up in my garage, full of pellets. Supply is now dwindling - hopefully I can catch another $5-a-bag deal at Walmart this fall.

    Voltage to lid handle

I dunno, sounds like it might be a "feature" to keep you from looking too frequently during your cook! :D In all seriousness, I hope that Camp Chef is able to help you resolve this issue.

Camp Chef ash amount after 1st cook...

Upon reading the initial post, I had this same concern...but as I'm not a Camp Chef owner nor that familiar with the design of their product, didn't chime in. If you do decide to try it, just keep a close eye on it.

    Pit Boss 820

I've removed the safety grate from the hopper. It was necessary when I had an auger jam and needed to empty the entire hopper, and it seems it'd just get in the way.

    Storing pellets

I use those empty plastic cat litter containers. Built-in handles and flip-top lids come in handy. I've got about a dozen of them stacked up in the garage, full from the $5 Pit Boss competition blend blowout @ Walmart last fall ($5 for 40lbs)

Good to hear! Thanks for the update, and I look forward to your post on the details of the cook.

    Pit Boss 820

Nice! Thanks for the feedback, and please follow up with what you think after you've cooked with it. I'm tempted to do this, but I wish it had built-in WIFI to sweeten the upgrade a little.

    New Pitt Boss 1000SC1

Looks nice! As a 700FB owner, I'm curious to hear what you think of it - please let us know.

Need some helpful hints for my next beef brisket on pellet grill

Did you go fat-side down on the cook? If not, it might help to do so in the future.

Pit Boss 341 square inch smoker

I've never priced the 340, but I have a 700FB which I picked up from WalMart a little over a year ago. Paid less than that, and it has twice the cooking surface. May be worth looking around a little more, if you feel you could benefit from a larger cooking area. EDIT: Most of my local...

    Pittboss 820

Not sure what to tell you there - my temp swings aren't too bad, especially once it gets going.

    Pittboss 820

I have been using its little brother, the 700, for a bit over a year now. Generally happy with it. I've had a few issues - motor broke away from its mount, and more recently, the temp probe went wonky on me. Pit Boss was quite helpful in getting free replacement parts out to me on both...

    New to Pellet Grills

Certainly....nothing fancy. I basically took the easy way out, and used a stair tread, attached to the front legs with a folding bracket I bought from Amazon. Having a hard time posting the link, but just search for "Amarine-made 2 PCS Long Release Arm Heavy Duty Polished Stainless Steel...

    Turkey Day in Louisville, KY

My sister lives there - we usually end up down there for Thanksgiving. Last year, the wife and I checked out this place: Against The Grain Brewery & Smokehouse We liked it - in fact, we'll probably go back this year, time permitting.

    New to Pellet Grills

No need to add a stack to the 700FB - it is vented in the back, and it engineered to use those. Only mod I've done to mine is attach a hinged shelf to the front of it.
