I will freely admit I hadn’t eaten halibut much if at all before moving to the west coast last year, and it has quickly surpassed salmon as the family favorite for fish. It is like white steak...I love it.
I didn’t want to grill direct, and not a full smoke so I fired up the 640 in indirect...
Just did some last night....I don’t buy steak anymore these are actually cheaper. They range from about 8-10 per pound depending on prime or choicr at Costco, so at first it looks expensive. However there is literally no trimming, waste, or bones....I season them up and leave the little bit of...
The new Yoder YS640 has everything.....Tank like build....ones that you see rusted have food stains down the front usually where grease has stripped it. Body will last a lifetime...plus now the ceramic lighter that the Bull has...plus the built in Fireboard and WiFi controller....it would be...
For rubbing seasoning on I just use clean hands.
For when I need to handle meat I have pvc type gloves but only for food handling...minor heat resistance but work fine.
For adjusting grill grates, diffusers, racks etc I bought a pair of Yoder heat resistant gloves so I can move them hot or...
Not an S model but will be doing upgrade when available. Love it but the S would be even “more better”...solid build, integrated quality probes with fireboaard not some cheap ones that aren’t accurate, WiFi control, ceramic igniter.
It’s like they combined the best of Yoder and Rec Tec into...
Congrats! I use the Yoder probably 2-3 times a week. I bought it about 3 weeks before the upgrade came out, so was a bit sad but they have a retrofit coming out in Q3 for current owners and hope they price it accordingly so it costs the same in the end. I bought a spare thermocouple and the...
I’m in Washington.....there is no rural king anywhere near that I know of....so perhaps that can explain the mystery. Getting the bags for 8.88 is much easier than coordinating a group buy for more.
If I had rural king near me I would go there without a doubt.
If you have a Dicks near you, they will price match LJ pellets and make them the same cost. Find a nice ad for Rural King at 8.88 a bag or less....and baam....pit boss prices for premium pellets.
I personally wouldn’t change them out....even the good ones aren’t that strong that they would overwhelm anything. Your taste may vary though.
I never run a secondary smoke device as well.
As far as type of pellets, in short order I went from trying anything to only Lumberjack pellets. The reason is the wood or smoke flavor....couldn’t tell the rest of the pellets (pit boss, Traeger, bbq delight) apart from each other and pretty much no smoke type flavor.
Lumberjack char hickory...
Pellet grills/smokers are pretty easy...it’s an outdoor oven. One thing that might be helpful is to budget some money for something like Fireboard which includes a probe for ambient air temp and a couple meat probes. The ambient part is nice because you can figure out what temp the air by your...
Use Lumberjack hickory or char hickory and smoke flavor problem solved...at least for me. Traeger blend from Costco, Pit Boss blend, BBQ delight all work but no flavor to me. Lumberjack Char Hickory one time and I was hooked...this is one area where I should have listened to all the members...
