Anyone done the door lift handle mod?

Anyone installed garage door lift handles on the sides in the existing spots on the WSM? I'm curious if it really makes a big deal or not. There's at least no new holes drilled which is what has my interest.

Boneless, Skinless, Thighs (On My “Q”)

Nice! I usually do the bone in skin on ones but to be honest i throw the skin out, to me it's just there to take the abuse of the heat lol

    Unattended Ribs!

I think it depends how you cook them in the first place. I've been eating leftover ribs for lunch all week and they've been just as good if not better than the day they came off the smoker. That said, less cuts = less spots to lose moisture.

Which hardware is safe in a smoker build

yeah my options are ace (2 min from home) or menards (5 min from home). back to menards it will be lol. I'm hoping i can fix it, the grill is in great shape but no lid = no bueno

Which hardware is safe in a smoker build

I know zinc is a no-no and stainless is the go to but are there other options that are acceptable? I'm assuming Iron might be okay? long story short i'm fixing an old weber kettle and the handle is disconnected. i drilled out the pop rivets that had held it in and plan to go to the hardware...

First time making ribs on my WSM

They were dry smoked. And I checked the temp an hour before and they weren’t quite up to temp, but it’s my first attempt so I’ve learned and I’ll try a few things different next time

First time making ribs on my WSM

about 6 hours, they just weren't quite tender enough and had a little too much smoke flavor. Smoke flavor is easy i'll add less. the chunks werent' burning consistently which is what caused that. And then next time I think i'll just wrap them in foil for the last hour to keep them hydrated at...

Best way to restore a weber kettle?

Thanks. i was leaning oven cleaner. Our house had a 50's style oven we had to use for about a year until the kitchen got remodeled and we used it and it made it look brand new. And yes i figured a burn out to get the chemicals long gone before I cook.

Best way to restore a weber kettle?

the plan is to scrape as much as i can. I normally try to avoid cleaners in grills. this is one exception i might make and that's only because i have no freaking clue who used the grill or where it came from entirely lol. I just want to get it cleaned up and looking new then re-season it...

Best way to restore a weber kettle?

yeah from what i've been hearing the new standard grates are not as good as the ones that came with them so i figured hinged was the way to go. I might try to salvage the old charcoal grate but so far it looks like maybe $60 to get the thing to brand new. That's new grates, degreaser, scraper, a...

Best way to restore a weber kettle?

Long story short we have a pretty dumpy looking weber kettle we inherited after it failed to sell at a garage sale. Boss lady insists we keep it and if we're gonna keep it I want to fix it up, so anyone know what's the best way to clean and refinish one? The porcelin is chipped in a few spots on...

*** UPDATED*** My "electric" fridge build...

No building expert but i can provide some info on 2 of the questions. 1) my understanding of enamled pieces is that enamel tends to shatter so cutting parts would probably be a mess. 3) I would presume it'd be open as well based on how i've seen other smokers. The idea is to get chips on to...

4 cornish game hens - still 2 hours?

Right now I'm running a WSM, so not a stick burner, but I'm just trying to come up with shorter smokes so I can get more use. The idea of going nowhere for 6 hours in the middle of the day on the weekend just doesn't seem to happen much lol. These ideas are awesome so i'll try some out.

4 cornish game hens - still 2 hours?

Anyone know if smoking 4 cornish game hens will still have a cooking time of around 2 hours? I'm trying to practice my smoking skills but the 6 hours needed for stuff like ribs is harder to come by. 2-3 hours is a lot easier.

First time making ribs on my WSM

They looked a bit dry but weren’t actually too bad. The temps though definitely got a bit higher than I wanted. Next time I do it I’m definitely doing a single rack to make working with it easier.

First time making ribs on my WSM

I bought a WSM last fall and finally busted it out today on 2 racks of ribs. This was my first time ever smoking ribs and first time on the WSM so a lot was learned. The flavor was perfect but the tenderness needed work, I didn’t 3-2-1 so that might be my issue. I also had to chase temps a lot...

Best way to do baked potatoes?

I'm going to do up 2 racks of ribs and to simplify cooking i was thinking of doing some baked potatoes. Is there a good easy way to make them on the smoker over the last 2 hours the ribs are cooking? If not i can dice up potatoes in the oven, it'd just be nice to not have to run back and forth.

    Looking for smoker recommendation

I know it’s not your style but 22” WSM might be up your alley. They’re dead on reliable and I think you can add a third rack to them with a simple “mod” https://www.cajunbandit.com/22-5-WSM-Stacker-Combo-Kit-p/22spk.htm
