I would say that bumping high quality threads back up, like this one, should be encouraged! That is my 2¢. I would have never seen this otherwise. These looks great! These are a "must do" for me.
It is strange. I have done many butts and they generally never go over 12 hours. It just seems odd to me. I thought maybe my thermometers are off. I smoke them at 225° and they generally range from 8-10 lbs. a piece. 20 hours just seems so long. But hey, when they're done.........they're done.
I have heard a lot about this bacon butter. I am smoking 2 turkeys this year for Thanksgiving. I just might have to give this bacon butter a go. That bird looks awesome!
If it is sealed up well, smoke discoloration shouldn't be a problem. If I do get a smoke leak in the seal, which does happen, it cleans up real easy. A squirt of 409 cleans it right up.
