    A Couple of MES Questions

Keep it out of the rain since the panel is not waterproof. As for cold and snow your heating and recover times will be longer. Lowest temp I've smoked here in MN is 29. Try to keep it out of the cold breezes when you smoke in cold weather so the unit will recover faster.

    It's Cold and I'm Smoking

Afraid so on the winter storm. As for the AMNPS I need to do some more smoking to get it right every time. I had the loader out about two inches and the tray out about an inch or two. The air was pretty heavy and cold so I pulled the AMNPS restoked it and let it burn for a good fifteen...

    It's Cold and I'm Smoking

I got home from work early today and decided to throw three racks of BB ribs into the smoker. I'm running the AMNPS with some Pitmaster pellets. It's had it's moments staying lit but I think it's running good now. The temp is about 29 and the MES 40 is keeping up just fine. The warmup time...

Maverick Model For Sub -Zero Temperatures

I don't think there would be a problem because of the temperature outside.  The unit I use is a Maverick ET-732.  IIRC the instructions didn't have a usable temperature range listed.  My concern would be battery life.  Cold air can suck the life out of batteries pretty quickly.  The Maverick has...

    MES 40 Vent Stuck...

I'll take it apart tonight and see where the hangup is.  My guess is that the metal work is a bit rough and there's places where the metal vent palte rubs against the vent grill.  I'll let you know what happens...

Please help? Confused on which one to buy..

One more for the MES 40. Works really well and it's easy to use. As said before get the AMNPS for it. The two together make great smokes. Don't forget to get the Maverick ET-732 thermometer with it. It has two probes to measure the smoker temp and the meat temp and it has a remote. That is a...

    MES 40 Vent Stuck...

Hi Everyone, The question I have is that when I was adjusting the vent on my MES 40 this weekend I found the thing was stuck solid.  Wouldn't budge.  Is there a way to loosen it so it moves?  I loosened the screw/nut that holds the parts together but to no avail.  I then cleaned out the area...

    New AMNPS Arrived Today

My new AMNPS arrived today from Todd and I can't wait to try it out. I picked up 2lbs of Pitmaster pellets with it to use with my first brisket next weekend. I do have a question though. I have the new MES 40 which doesn't have the rails. Where is the best place to set the AMNPS? On the...

YOU'RE KILLING ME!!! I just ordered this morning an AMNPS and a bag of pellets to go with it. Had I known about this before now I would have ordered the Maverick 732 too. I have no one to blame but myself. I'm bummed right now..... :-( Edited: Todd just sent me a private message with...

    I Need a Possible Explanation

The vent was open and I made sure there were not turkey parts touching the little thingy that sticks out from the cabinet back. I wonder if the brining had something to do with it. There was a lot of moisture in there. It was also about 45 degrees out when I started.

    MES 40 Door Trim Cracked

I purchased it at Cabelas since they had the new style in stock. I don't really want to pack it up and bring it back because of the size. I think I'll see if MB will send me a new one before I try to bring it back.

    MES 40 Door Trim Cracked

As some of you may know I purchased my MES 40 a couple of weeks ago and have used it twice so far. Some how the trim around the door on top has cracked in half. I don't know how this happened since its been stored inside and not been abused in any way. I realize this is cosmetic but I don't...

    I Need a Possible Explanation

On Thanksgiving Day I loaded up two 13 lb turkeys into my MES 40 and started the temp at 230 degrees. The turkeys were brined supermarket types the were preinjected at the factory. I fully expected to begin a seven to nine hour smoke so I went inside to prepare the other parts of the meal. As...

I'm not real familiar on how to send a "PM" to Jeff. How is this done?

Have not received the E-Course yet

Hi there. This is a great resource for smoking food and equipment information but I have a question concerning the E-Course. I registered for the e-course last week and got the impression it was to be delivered over the following days.  So far I haven't received anything in my e-mail.  Am I...

    Turkey Brining

I am going to smoke a 13lb turkey for Thanksgiving and have seen that it needs to be brined before smoking.  My question is if the turkey is already flavor injected at the processing plant do I still need to brine?  My GUESS is that it would not be absolutely necessary but since this is the...

    MES and Smoking a Turkey

I had a sucessfull first smoking adventure of pork ribs Friday in my MES 40.  They turned out pretty well for my first try - a bit too fall off the bone but well spiced and tasty.  I'm on to my next smoke, a thanksgiving turkey.  I've got the recipe I'm going to use so thats set but the question...

    New 2012 MES 40 Temps

I'm in the process of smoking some spare ribs ribs right now. I've been checking my temps with an oven thermometer and my meat thermometer. When checked against the displayed temp I'm within three degrees up or down. So far I'm pretty happy with the accuracy. I may not be so happy later if it...
