Just have to figure out how to get the skin crispy. Haven't had any luck with that it always turns out a bit chewy. The rub was super good though especially on the skin
Also decided to break in the Savannah with a pork loin and honestly probably the best pork loin I've smoked. Just scored the top, mustard, then a homemade rub. Cooked it at 225 for probably 3 hours. It was super juicy and honestly almost falling apart. And honestly think the PitBoss is adding...
Finally got my Pitboss Savannah put together Friday night and that initial burn off and seasoning last night and fired it up today. Still can't believe all the space it has but decided to smoke 2 pork loins and a whole chicken that I decided to pull. Brined it for 4 hours, spatchcocked it, then...
Thanks for all the help. Once I got a little further along with the initial burn off it stopped coming out of the bottom of the smoker and just produced nice clean smoke. Got that all taken care of even put some probes in there to check how the pit temp fluctuated and it is a like 5 degrees...
Finally got the hoss out together last night. But definitely needed a bit of help just to some awkward angles and such. Doing the initial burn off right now so I can fire it up for a cook tomorrow. I do have another question to see if anyone can figure it out. I have smoke rolling out from the...
Finally made my decision on a new smoker. Was browsing through Walmart and saw the PitBoss Savannah on the shelf and looked like it was exactly what I was looking for. It's huge and can't wait to use it. But had some trouble I spent 2 hours attempting to put it together and didn't get anywhere...
Think I've narrowed it down to these four and probably going to go get one today or tomorrow. Any more thoughts on them. Really just need it to smoke haven't had the best luck with grilling on them always have a ton of flareups.
Just curious how is the space in it. Is there plenty of room in it especially cooking space on the upper rack to cook maybe a brisket or butt on top and some other stuff below it like ribs. I actually have one available at a store really close to me if the one pictured is what you are talking...
So how much space is in the Austin XL is the upper rack big enough to smoke some meat on because that's the biggest thing I'm looking for in a new smoker is an upper rack to smoke meat on to get it away from the heat. Also curious with the Brunswick and Pit Boss Pro how the pellets load in it...
Been looking around a little at some stores here in the area and found a couple that interest me just wanted others thoughts on the ones Im interested in. The ones pictured below are the only ones really available in my area and really interested in the PitBoss Brunswick and ones like that but...
Oh yeah will look into them as well. If I had the money to get one I'd really like a woodwind pro but haven't looked into anything else. But think I will.
Definitely going to check it out sounds like what I'm wanting and don't need the bluetooth stuff I don't mind going out and checking temps and such. How big are the 2nd and 3rd racks are they big enough to put a brisket or butt on so I can cook on them want a way to cook away from the heat a bit.
Don't have a sous vide but might try the method gmc2003 suggested or just cook it while. Will definitely keep the thread updated with what I decided to do.
Honestly these are the 2 that have caught my eye. Just didn't know if that vertical one would be worth it looks like it's decent on space. Have honestly thought of a gravity charcoal smoker as well but have heard they don't hold up too well.
This is probably the best picture of what I have now to show the size and lack of having a rack and how close it comes to the top when I do have a makeshift upper rack.
Just too small honestly even when I rig it up to have a small upper rack the meat still sits very close to the top of the smoker and over cooks. Want something with more spaces and an upper rack to do stuff
Would probably prefer a pellet smoker but would be open to charcoal eventually would like something somewhat cheap with charcoal first since I've never dealt with it. But first would probably be pellet. Right now the smoker I have is small and really can't do alot on it like multiple meats at...
Sure this gets asked alot but getting back taxes here soon and decided I wanted to upgrade my smoker. Right now I just have an Even Embers 28 inch pellet grill/smoker. Looking for something maybe running around 500-600 dollars with alot more space and an upper rack as well. Not really sure where...
Had a friend order corned beef from Walmart and they gave them a Brisket Flat and they were wondering if I could do Burnt Ends for a Super Bowl Party this Sunday. 2 questions. Could I use a Flat to do Burnt Ends? And does anyone have a good Burnt Ends recipe. Also going to attempt some smoked...
