Here's how I do bacon in the Masterbuilt electric. https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/threads/lockdown-bacon.298119/
I am really happy with how this batch came out.
I have given up and just let her handle all the seasoning mixtures. Yesterday we ground 16# of pork butt for sausage, half breakfast and half Italian and I have no idea what seasonings are in either batch.
What variety do you plant? I grow Music (hard neck) and Incheleum Red (soft neck). I plant around Halloween and harvest around or after July 4. The soft necks last pretty close to a year so we rarely run out of garlic.
I don't wrap and I don't give it much thought at all till it gets to around 195F. Then I'll probe it for tenderness. As mentioned a probe should go in with no resistance at all. My last cook was two butts of equal weight but one was ready at about 200F and the other at about 205F. They are all...
Canned spinach (with a sprinkle of malt vinegar) evokes memories of my youth. My wife abhors the stuff so I haven't had it in years. She's OK with fresh, though.
Call Masterbuilt. They have a reasonably good customer service reputation (though I have never called them myself). The "real" fix is to get rid of the Masterbuilt controller and go with a PID controller, but that is a bit on the expensive side and requires some re-wiring.
Masterbuilt's thermometers are known to be wildly inaccurate. Most people ignore them and rely on another known accurate thermometer to gage the real temp inside the box.
Yes. That will put full power to the heat element and could result in a total meltdown if left on for a long time. I only did it long enough to see if it tripped the GFI. Took about four seconds.
Yes, Auber PID, MES 40 with the rewire as described by Tallbm. With that and the mailbox mod I am very happy with my setup and consider this just a maintenance thing. New element is about $35. At least when it happens to yours you'll know what to look for.
Taking all your advice, I tried it on a non GFI circuit and it worked fine. I let it run for a while, taking it from 80f to 200f with no problems. So I conclude that the element is going bad. I ordered a new one and will also make sure the connections are good when I install the new one. Also...
