Thanks for the tips. After my first adventure, I knew tongs and spatula were no go so I am shopping around. Ooni brand pretty pricey but maybe the quality is better than big box store items.
I got around to firing up the Ooni with the gas burner. On idle and then cranked up. Pizza tasted much better than it looked when I pulled it out. No peel; tongs and a spatula. Got to buy some stuff!

Per the description on the CookShack website. You could try a hair drier on the controller and see how that works and possible the heat from the smoker once it gets going will keep the module at or above 60 degrees.
