    First Butt is a Bust

Thanks everyone for the quick replys. I decided to trash it, as I wasnt sure exactly what was going on with it. I tried three different thermometers on it, and they all read 140 after 5 hours. I thought this was weird for a piece of meat less than 3 pds. On the other hand, the ribs were pretty...

    First Butt is a Bust

Sorry, left the important info off. I've been smoking around 230-240. Thermometer is a LEM and it passed the boiling water test. I took the probe out of the butt and put it in a different spot, only changed 2 degrees.

    First Butt is a Bust

First smoke on the Gasser, threw in a rack of baby backs and a small butt on the rack above them, which are the two center racks in the smoker. Ribs should be ready to come off in 15 minutes. The butt is only 2.6 pounds, figured it would be a trial run. After 4.5 hrs, it's only at 136. Seems...

Therm. from Bass Pro, anyone got one?

I bought this termometer and have a question if anyone has it: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/st..._SearchResults In the directions it states that if grilling/smoking use it as an instant read thermometer and not as a continuous read thermometer. It is okay to use it as a continuous...

    Smokin in Carolina

Thanks for all of the welcoming messages. I'm not sure when I'll have a chance to do my first smoke, but I'll post the results as soon as I can. I'm sure I will have a few questions beforehand.

    Smokin in Carolina

Hello all, name is Mitch. I've been lurking around the forum for a few days now and decided to sign up. I'm new to this smoking thing and just got a Masterbuilt Propane Smoker. I'm located in North Carolina (Go Pirates!) and enjoy traveling around trying different BBQ joints. Decided it was...
