I received a Thermapen for fathers day and it was the first time I used it. I didn't test it with ice water or boiling water since I just read the calibration certificate, but maybe I should double check it.
I did check the temperature with the meat while it was...
Hello All,
I tried some chicken legs on my PG500 pellet grill for the first time. I cooked them indirect for about 30 minutes at 300 degrees and then moved them over to the charbroiler. I check their temp when I moved them over to the charbroil and they were at 135 degrees. I thought I...
I think almost all of the ribs I have done were frozen. Mostly because I stock up on meat from a butcher that is kind of far away.
In general I leaning toward decreasing my usage of meat previously frozen on some cuts. Ribs and butts don't seem to be affected much if at all by being frozen...
Mine is out in the open. Right now I am 17 hours into a smoke with some very light sprinkles. I hope it holds out.
Overall I really like the Cookshack and have been using it a lot this spring. So much in fact that I am planning to replace my gas grill with a PG500 pellet smoker.
I was in the back basement and lost connection. The problem is that if the unit loses connection after a period of time it shuts down the Bluetooth communication for good and I have to go to the unit and turn it back on. Probably does this to save battery. I would prefer the timeout to be...
I just tossed two slabs of baby backs on with some hickory and apple. I plan to put the baked beans on with 2.5 hours left and add another small piece of apple. Last time I made these I overcooked them and they were a little dry/pasty. Still the best beans I ever had though. I think they were...
I recently made this recipe. Well I didn't have pineapple or jalapeño. I used some siracha chile sauce for the spice and smoked them way too long. They were still awesome. Just think if I would have done them correctly.
2nd time in three weeks that Meijers in Ann Arbor had a few pork butts for around $1.20 a pound. I picked up an 8 pounder which I will probably freeze. Two weekends ago I smoked it that next day and it tasted great. I think the are on sale because they were getting close to their freeze by...
Thanks for the input guys. It sounds like a PG500 is a good choice, but also Weber gas grills are built like tanks and Weber charcoal grills are still considered great for turning out awesome tasting and looking food.

After getting into smoking more with my Cookshack 025 I am really starting to notice that my gas grill really isn't providing a great grill taste. I think it is pretty good for burgers and steaks, but after doing some chicken on it I really started thinking that it doesn't have much flavor. I...
