Any chance you can post some images specifically of how the lid is used on the bottom of the pot. I'm not grasping how the lid is used to keep it from sitting down in the bottom of the grill.
I didn't realize that I had these already for my build until I saw that image. I still have to come up with my tamale pot. I'll take a look around locally once boxing day is over.
Metal flashing is what I was thinking about. I'll have to wait until after the new year. I can't lift anything over 10 pounds right now, so I have to wait until I have assistance moving that big paver.
After cooking with one of the skillets, I coat the surface with flax seed oil and heat it until it starts to smoke. I guess it's not a reseasoning, but it seems to help the surface.
Sorry for the second post so soon. I didn't think about it before, but I'll have to put some sort of guard on this so coals don't roll onto the wood. Hate to have the table burn. Not an issue with the table, but it could drop my dutch oven and that would be a bad thing.
I really like that table. I do a lot of dutch oven cooking and that would really help me get up off the ground. It probably would allow much better air circulation around the bottom coals and for a dutch oven that means better temperature control.
I think I'll steal your idea
So I picked up the ET732 in red. I got it the other day. I just checked it out with the boiling water test. I'm very happy with how it performed at 212F.
I went and bought an ET732. I got this one.
So, how far are people actually seeing that this works? I know it depends on what's in your area, structures and radio interference. But does it really work farther than 100'?
Well, I picked up a Smokey Joe Silver for the kids to give me. I also ordered a Maverick ET732 thermometer for myself for my birthday. I'll shop for the pot once I'm allowed to open the grill.
BTW, I also ordered Jeff's book. I figure I'm getting an education here, I want to support the site.
Yeah, I had read through both of your threads, along with a bunch of other threads about the mini. I'll be using them, along with the other threads, to help me with my build.
I'm in the gathering stage as well. The kids need things to give me for Christmas. I'm having issues with the pot, I don't want to spend $50 on it. I haven't looked locally yet, mainly because I don't have the Smokey Joe until one of them gives it to me on Christmas. It has to be 14.5", is...
Ok, another newbie with a question about this. I've read the links and just want to ensure that I understand what I need.
If I'm not planning on making any sausage, I can just get cure #2? My main interest right now for low temp smoking is to make some buckboard bacon.
