Who Makes Their Own Seasonings (Rubs)

I do a combination of making my own and store bought. I like the meat church brand and yardbird. My go to that I make is good on poultry and pork. I also have a beef rub I like to make that is more pepper heavy. Like to mix it up to keep things interesting.

    Loving Retirement!!

I would retire if the house was paid for, the kids were out of college, and health insurance wasnt so expensive. Those are just excuses though. Planning on working 3 more years full time then half time for one or two more if I can take it. Will be 62 then, out of excuses and kids will be set for...

    Why spend the money?

Word. I completely agree with everything you said. I use the same thinking and always use a good secondary thermometer when smoking.

    I need help choosing smoker

Smoking sausage I would be more concerned with the lower range of temps to avoid fat out. I would want a smoker to be able to hit 150 c for hot smokes. This would push me towards an electric. I have a pellet pooper and it struggles with sausage. Used to have a masterbuilt which worked well until...

Sandblaster to remove paint from concrete foundation?

If I were still in co I would lend you mine but live in MO now. I ran into this in my kc house where they painted foundation. I roughened up the paint with a grinder quite a bit. Nailed/screwed on metal lathe and did a rough scratch coat. Then I mortared on rock. You could also do tile but...

    It's Hatch Time

I bought ten pounds roasted today. Will freeze in quart sizes. I just deskin and remove seeds after thawing. Usually use a light stream of water to clean. The vitamix is a good idea if need a purée, will have to give it a try.

Anyone using Inkbird or any other wireless thermometers?

Tried an inkbird and it stopped charging after about four uses. Was a few weeks past warranty and would only give a discount on same model. No thanks. Have had zero issues with my thermoworks signals. Also have their rfx which has one probe that only lasts two hours but they will replace it...

I went to a drywall supply store to get the metal Studs. Contractor supply sometimes have them but drywall here always have what need and usually cheaper too.

    Started on the Outdoor Kitchen

Great progress. Would recommend a windbreak on top of that grill island. It makes a big difference on my gas grill. Smart move putting the framing on top of composite deck boards. Will make it last a long time. What gage studs you end up using?

Think I found a nice little side hustle.

Very nice work. Wish I had time to do more work in my shop. I have been on the hunt for a nice used planer. I found one but hesitated and it got sold. Are you able to router in a drip channel? That would bring it to the next level. I have several projects on my list, work bench, double barn...

    Just purchased ReqTec 1100 Flagship

You will enjoy the convenience of the pellet pooper. I use mine more than the stick burner. If you want more smoke flavor can add a pellet tube. Make sure to regularly clean it out to avoid a fire. I like the lumber jack pellets. My fav is the apple but also use the cherry blend and...

    Firewood in smoker

I just burn small splits. Get free oak hickory and apple. The small splits catch fire easier and burn more even to limit temp spikes. I heat them on top of firebox.
