Electric Smoker WiFi 710 model temp calibration

Welcome to SMF! Yes the MES units are known for being inaccurate. Most here have gone the way of putting in a PID which does an excellent job AND many have done the mailbox mod which frees up feeding wood chips.

    Smoker worth fixing up?

...in smoker. Adds zero heat if you do the mailbox mod. Also, you can get a tray instead of tube and use dust which add no heat. If you add PID it becomes a BEAST. Will hold temps insanely good. Most of us set it up to run a "sausage ramp" of temp steps. Reminds me I want to change mine to...

Heating Element/Temp Controller for DIY Smoke House

Does the TC control the supply ?? Meaning if the flame goes out it turns the gas off ?? If not I STRONGLY suggest using a fail safe system like that... I remember that thread as well... I've also heard of others using a PID for gas...

    Snack stick temps stall.

...standard smoked fare like chicken/ribs/etc. Zero water for that stuff. I used my MES a long time for that stuff and it was good but wish someone woulda suggested a pellet grill as it really does a much better job than the MES. That said, MES + PID works fantastic for sausage (and cured stuff).

    13 Years in the Making

Myself I vote for electric with a smoke tube... With the right PID controller it can be set up to ramp temps up automatically... Meaning you don't have to go out and make adjustments every hour like you have to when using gas... Which I am totally against unless it's set up to be fail safe...

    Smoker worth fixing up?

I appreciate the response, if you can pm me some links to these upgrades I don’t mind spending a few hundred lol, I use my big pellet grill all the time so this will be a learning curve as I know nothing about this thing other than turning it on, do you use the water pan on these?

    Recteq question

...back to an offset, can't stand babysitting it anymore, so I'm back to a bigger pellet pooper, still use the drum for some things, but I use a PID stoker unit on it. 90% of my smoking is 90 to 100* + summer heat, and I just don't enjoy sweating over coals for hours on end anymore, so it's back...

    Building a smoker in Utah

...with thermocouple to sense when the fire goes out and cuts the gas flow. dont want your new smoker blowing up. yours is small enough chamber, you could use electric heat element. there are a few good threads on here for using a PID to control the heat with a solenoid valve to regulate the gas...

Electric Smoker WiFi 710 model temp calibration

I have the MES sportsmen model. My unit at 2 different times got over 350°f without shutting down. One time it got over 375. This was a brand new unit at the time. I wouldn't trust the cutoff switch. I replaced everything with a pid unit I wired in and a better cutoff switch.

RecTec 590 wont go above 180

...working just fine after your cleaning. ie about 3-4 mins to initial fire (temp rise), the fan kicks on and 150 temp is hit in 2-3 mins, then the PID kicks in and slowing increase to 225 over about 20 minutes. The cold temp is the contributing "dips" in the climb when the auger or fan cycled...

    Pellet Smokers

GMG makes a nice smoker, I have the baby one, and many of my friends have bigger ones. They have a true PID controller and have a very nice smoke profile. Recteq is also nice (I love mine) but if the GMG is in your price range and the RT isn't I would snag one without hesitation.....

Relay on the board in the bottom has welded it's contacts in the on position. Replace the board, if it is still available, or better, rewire per instructions above and buy a PID controller for a significant improvement in your smoker.

Electric Smoker WiFi 710 model temp calibration

I also did the Auber wifi PID re-wire on my MES. Best couple hundred bucks I've spent. The re-wire was a little confusing for me, but the resources here helped. Now I basically have a $1,000 smoker. It's incredible and holds temp within a degree forever. I added the mailbox modification for...

Electric Smoker WiFi 710 model temp calibration

@DAW if you want to go the PID route this is the one most here would recommend. https://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14_28&products_id=110 As far as the wiring goes follow the links in my previous post. A lot of us here can help with this especially @tallbm.

    Masterbuilt smoker trouble

Both my electric smokers are controlled by PID, even though the original controls can still work. If I were in your shoes, there is no way I would spend any money on replacing the less than optimal original control system when that money is far better spent upgrading to a PID controller.

Heating Element/Temp Controller for DIY Smoke House

I have been debating the same thing electric and size/watts vs propane. Mine isnt as big 30” sq inside dims x 5.5’ tall. I am leaning towards using a tejas low pressure burner with a thermocouple. Not sure how or if can use a pid with propane.

    MES 30 upgrade?

Ok as many know I have the MES 30 with the arbor pid- it works great - for 10 lbs or less. I’d like to be able to smoke 20 lbs at a time. What would be a good step up and still use the pid?

In the market for a new smoker. Any recommendations?

...love is going through a tough time. Best wishes to you and your family. Good luck on the rib cookoff. I wish you success!!!! I also use a PID on my Baby. She holds temp really well but I am like you. I want a bit more to steady my mind during cooks. If I ever need another smoker, I...
