I agree with this one ( I have 2 and the makings for a third)... It's the homemade version of the 14" WSM... And can still use it as a regular grill as the lil smokey joe is not altered in any way... It really is the perfect smoker for camping as it is a 2-1 unit...
Very fuel efficient...
My first offset was a Char Broil. Yes the paint just came off. You can scrap, sand etc and repaint with a high temp paint. Because the metal is so thin on the Char Broil it will probably come off again on the firebox. When I had mine I did finally gave up on painting the fire box and just went...
I did some quick calculations on your unit. You have 61,581 cu. in. in your cook chamber. The recommendations on a reverse flow are cooking chamber cu. in. x .022 for the exhaust stack cu. in. All exhaust stack lengths are figured above the top of the cook chamber. You could use a 6" inside dia...
Old thread but I wanted to post an update. The builder picked the smoker up today, and is going to modify it. Aparently he modified his design based on my issues, and he is going to modify mine to be like the new ones he builds.
Basically what that means is he is going to cut the hood out...
Maybe @daveomak will chime in and tell you exactly what you need. I know he helps many others on this topic. I'm not sure where to tell you to look...have you tried search button or look through smokerbuilds?
Make sure to take pics...we wanna see also!

Bear Jr has to dress up the grounds, when he builds towers, and plant trees, and lay stone, etc, etc. Well he used to have a Cat Skid Steer, and his guys were tearing everything up, on the turns. LOL one wheel going one wa y & the other going the other way. So he got rid of the Cat & got the...
I have had a rack of dino’s that was gifted to me a while back. Thanks Robert, aka @tx smoker
I was waiting for something special, and our Grandson drove up from Delray Beach, to spend the weekend.
Perfect time to get these bad boy‘s out.
I did a bit of trimming to clean them up a bit, then...
After doing some digging I found a wealth of information it was under Smoking Supplies and Equipment > SmokerBuilds > Brick Smokers all I can say is WOW
SMF is #1 this puts me off to a good start. Looking forward to doing more reading, there needs to be more links online to SMF I guess I have...
Your reverse flow cooker is nearly the same size as mine. Mine has a 36" dia. cook chamber x 60" lg. The total internal dims of both are nearly the same. To answer a few of your ?? I would make a rectangle firebox at .333 the size of the cubic inches of your cook chamber. The size you have...
I’ll leave the science to those who know smokerbuilds. That said less than 3 sticks an hour doesn’t seem unusual to me. You built a whopper and it’s going to eat some wood. After buying my Lang 84D it didn’t take me long to learn I was going to need a steady supply of wood. Out of curiosity did...
The tutorial has been modified based on many builds to provide for a more versatile smoker. If the CC/FB opening is too restricted then you won't be able to reach higher temps in the CC. This extra area that translates through the full smoke is more forgiving for the losses that happen and...
Good deal. It's a heck of a smoker for the price. I drove almost 10hr one way for mine. He builds quick as well so that's a perk. You could order tomorrow and have your smoker in a few weeks. Most builders are booked for months to a year right now
Haha thank you :)
JD - Looking at builds makes me a bit jealous - in London my garden is pretty big but I no way have space for a lot of those style efforts.
Bill - ideally I'd like to do both; I'm definitely looking to build an oven. The big grill is for other fun party stuff, like chops...
Heck yeah. I'd build one if I could. Parts are a plenty. Infrared burner in mine is same in my grill. Love your builds BTW! Someday I would like to get into metal and welding. I have been researching this stuff a LONG time. Back before these little toys were around you would want to find...
