Hi Richie, thank u.

Hi there and welcome!
Great advice so far by the others. I agree that starting with brisket is probably not the most ideal approach. I'll provide you with a little encyclopedia of a post with as much knowledge as I think would help you at at the moment, so beware the long post :)
To answer...
I'm new here, living in Manila, Philippines. I'm planning on having a steel smoker fabricated, the vertical kind like a Pitmaker BBQ Vault. The offset design also looks good, but I think I'll go with the vault type. Hope I can still post here.
Shipping and cost make it impractical to import...
To dry it would need to be kept out of rain.Smaller pieces will dry quicker I have a place in the Philippines but don't do any smoking their.I just bought a bag of Coconut Charcoal so that may be another option for you. Good luck
Richie
Friday evening I asked Miss Linda how stuffed tenderloin sounded for Mother's Day. I got instant approval, so I checked to see what her preference was--it would, after all, be her day. Did she want the tenderloin stuffed with apple pie filling which, while excellent, I had made before, or...
Well, been a while since I did any snack sticks and thought I better restock for Muzzle loader Elk season,, Which starts on Dec. 21 in my neck of the woods.
Asked the guys what they wanted this yr and so here we go.
This is all 80/20 beef
The players - Mango Habanero, Garlic Parmesan and...
I've lived in the Philippines for 8 years, previously lived in Chicago. I first discovered brisket working as a consultant in San Antonio and coming up to Austin for the weekend. If you avoided the interstates, the state and county roads and roadhouses were fascinating. Stopping at antique and...
Smoke,
You obviously have access to some very exotic wood that are not normally available to most people that smoke. You have a few that I would start with and experiment with the others- most of which I've never heard of, but you never know, You may likely find some rare ones that are better...
As promised, I smoked some chicken wings using some mangowood. I have been drying that wood since last september and now it is pretty dry.
As soon as I added the wood to the coals; a caramel smell evolved which was very pleasant. The wings came out very good.
I do not have any reference to...
...the U.S. many mango cultivars are anthracnose resistant (all of mine are resistant types) and from what I gather if you are not allergic to the fruit, and the wood is seasoned dry there should be no problem. I would not smoke food with mangowood that has been treated with copper spray fungicide.
I'm just about to get another smoker after a long hiatus. I used to live on an island and fished all the time and once the smoker was stoked up I smoked a lot of what I caught and anything else in the fridge and freezer I could swipe from under my ex's watchful eye :-)
I smoked with all of the...
Thanks dirtsailor for the advice, I will make sure I do that next time.
We have Mango trees in Egypt, in fact we have like 14 different types of mangoes here. I got the wood from the trees I have in my backyard. I will be saving more wood this year for the future.
Some plants and trees like Mango do get attached sometime by aphids, you need to spray those with organophosphate insecticide for a couple of weeks. This would surly ruin your wood for smoking.
I have a mango tree and get old, dried wood that falls off. I'm going to try it based on what ppl have said. I never spray it for anything and there is no sap. I will let y'all know.
True value has the best price.
Else theres Ace Hw but marked up a bit more...
I know a couple other BBQ addicts who smoke using mangowood... And you find that all around the metro. Oh and coconut husk from the palengke
Hello all,
Wanted to test the new mods for my double barrel smoker that i have built; so I whipped up 4 lbs of wings.
I brined 2 lbs and rubbed the other 2 lbs with magic dust (as a trial)
I have added a new chimney and glass-wool insulation around the drums.
After reaching 250F, all 4...
I will be trying Mangowood soon, I used to spray it with Auxins and Algae extract for it to produce good fruit if that what you are referring to. I am pretty sure that what I am spraying is totally organic since that was the whole point of planting fruits at home in the first place.
Will keep...
