If you want a stainless steel smoker, look at the offerings from Smokin-it, SmokinTex, and Cookshack. They are pricey, to say the least. But they are all SS inside and out. That is a smokin-it model 3D in the photo to the left.
...a $600 pellet grill to a $700+ cabinet smoker.
What measurable differences are there in an MES 40, for example, compared to a Smokin-it or SmokinTex electric smoker that could justify the price discrepancy?
Since they are both cabinet-style electric smokers, should the MES not achieve...
I cannot speak for SmokinTex (there are postings illustrating the drilling and the results. I can tell you from other sources that many owners of the Smokin-It line have successfully used Amazen products with no smoker modification. Both brands are similar in function. Why one brand would work...
...in the morning vs 1 am . I had to get up to turn the smoker off. I used a 2 oz chunk of hickory and that flavored the breast good. The SmokinTex smokers don't use a lot of wood to smoke meat 2 - 4 oz is the max. That little piece of wood will smoke for 4 hours and it's the light blue smoke...
...so they can have a feeling of belonging to a "family".
I came very close to buying the PK smoker in 2012. I had looked at CookShack and SmokinTex as well as Smokin-it. At the time CookShack offered me a deal on a scratch and dent Amerique and I could not resist. Had I not gotten that...
The SmokinTex and Smokin-It smokers do have temp swings. My Smokin-It swings almost exactly 25* which doesn't effect most things like ribs, shoulders etc but would be a problem for sausage. As far as I know the only way to avoid it is to install/use a PID that'll hold temp within a couple...
Call the rep at Smokintex and he will explain the temperature swings. I have the 1460 model and it varies in actual temperature vs what the dial reads. There are several ST owners that have modified their unit by adding a PID controller. I was concerned that my sausage would blow up with the...
Just curious, have you checked your oven with an external probe? I've wondered what the swing is in my oven though have never measured. I have a gas oven, though I imagine there is a swing in gas or electric. Maybe less in a convection?
I haven't tried it that low yet. Higher temp 225 swings...
Can I take my little chief smoker rack and place it on top of my 1460 loaded with cheese and place the cardboard box it came in over it. Then cut a small hole on top of the box for a vent? Then place wood in 1460 for smoke. As long as I keep the temp below 80 won't this work for smoking cheese...
...in Oklahoma. There racks are NOT stainless steel; that would be an upgrade. As for the other stainless steel smokers, Smokin-it (SI) and SmokinTex (ST), they are Chinese imports of high quality. Racks are all stainless steel. Smokin-it has the most options available from analog to PID to...
...let it age for a couple of weeks and then I will give the report on how it turned out. I was worried but after doing this it seemed very simple. I wanted to kill 2 birds with one stone and smoke a couple pork roasts and cold smoke the cheese on top of the Smokintex but I changed my mind on that.
...to be at for bologna and Summer sausage or the casing might explode. I have cooked a 12 lb turkey at 225 and it was zero problem. I guess this is what you get for Made in China. The smokintex is a clone of the Cookshack at a reduced price. So you have had the same problem with the...
...theory; or it may be a reversal of that theory. It is momentary as the oxygen in a tight smoker (assuming you are using an electric like a Cookshack or Smokin-it or SmokinTex) will be consumed rather quickly and the fire goes out, and the smoke thins out. I just let it go. No harm and not foul.
Hi there and welcome!
The main difference I see (according to website info) between the MES 40 and the comparable size Smokin-It is that the smokin-it comes with a PID controller. Also the Smokin-it is built way more sturdy and better, though the MES is not built badly
Now if you bought a...
Thanks. It's a Smokin It 2. Never seen it do that. Smoke was too heavy, and dark. Too much wood I assume. It's going good now. Thin white smoke. Another lesson learned.
Fathers day is approaching so I decided to treat myself with a SmokinTex 1400 electric smoker with cart. They are currently running fathers day specials so I figured now is the best time to buy. Shipping was 1 day (super fast) and I'm currently seasoning the unit. I borrowed my neighbors unit...
I've got 4 electrics: MES 30 (gen1), Cookshack Smokette 008, SmokinTex 1400 and a Smokin-IT #3. Of them all, I like the Smokin-It the best.
I also have a GMG Davy Crockett which replaced my gas grill. Great to take it camping, sort of smokes but grills fairly well.
