    MES30 and auber, inaccurate temps?

Hi there and welcome! I'm with @choochooman442 and 1st thing to do is test the probes in boiling water and see how on/off they are. Then as people have mentioned, even next to each other they may read differently. The key is they are in the ball park. On my lower rack I have 3 different temp...

    Beginning to hate my MES40

I added the Auber PID a few years ago and it was a game changer. Also did the chip tray removal as Rich recommended. That enabled me to use wood chunks as well. Add the Cold Smoke attachment and the tube and I'm very happy with the performance as well as the flavors. I tried a Pitboss pellet...

    Auber PID not working

It should heat some if the element is good when the lugs to the 1,500 watt element are disconnected and reads 9.6 ohms with 120vac. The WS-1510ELPM Auber is 15 amp 1,800 watts many here use for the Mes 40 1,200 watt element that would handle your element. This controller can be on indefinitely...

Probe placement and calibration? (MES30 + Auber)

Hi there and welcome! 1. I think your probes are reading right and are fine. The difference across the rack you are seeing is due to the airflow and movement within the smoker. The way the element is made, it will produce heat more towards one side of the smoker than the other. Additionally...

    Toggle switch

I'd probably just bypass the dial with a wire nut being two wires if you're getting a plug and play Auber. Unplug the smoker from the Auber and bring the PID inside out of the humidity when not in use.

    Toggle switch

Oh yeah they are awesome as a power switch like that. The one I listed is 110/120V so for smaller voltage there might be a better fit out there. Just don't get one that will melt on you lol.

Hi Ryan, thanks for the reply. What is an Auber pid?

To continue beating the poor horse.......

...a Masterbuilt Electric Smoker 40 inch (MES40), do the simple rewire it to (cut ends off 4 wires and wire nut to make 2 whole wires) use an Auber PID controller and cut out the safety limit switch or swap it with a 352F safety switch. Rock the A-Maze-N Pellet Smoker (AMNPS) tray that provides...

    Free is for me!

Nice score!!! Sounds like you are on it checking the heating element already. I've had where the connectors were ok BUT corrosion built up between the wire and the connector itself at the heating element. That's a quick fix replacing the connector. With no panel at the high temp safety limit...

PID mod on other smokers? larger option?

...no access to it. Some throw themselves under the bus, "I'm on my sixth Mes.........." That makes investing in a plug and play WS-1510ELPM Auber PID very inexpensive and you unplug the compact unit in 15 seconds, leaving the sensor in the smoker and store it in your HVAC home to keep it out...

Just Pulled the Trigger on Auber AW-1520H

So I haven't smoked anything yet, but I installed the temperature sensor and dialed it in. I drilled a hole center/center on the back wall of the smoker. I connected the Auber to my wireless network and set my PID to 1, 0, 0. Fired the smoker up and set it to 275 for a test run. It held 275...

    Auber Wifi

My old Auber PID bit the dust few weeks ago that runs snoopy. So I bought their wifi Model: AW-1520H How the heck do I program the steps on this thing? Its kicking my butt for sure. Says it's tuned for the Bradley smoker. Do I need to tune it to snoopy? Any help for a dummy.

    Reviving a MES 30 --> PID

...to LOVE how much better your smoker is once rewired and running with a PID. If you need to know some good P-I-D values and how to use an Auber PID (the manual is confusing) check out this page: https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/threads/setting-auber-pid-temp-time-and-other-values.318849/...

    Supllueer Smoke Generator

This is an older post but I have that smoke generator. It's very nice. The condensate trap works well and you get clean smoke from it. I put wood chips in a pellet tube, light the top of the tube and set it in the chamber. Keeps it cleaner than putting the chips in without it. I also have a...

    PID Troubles

I use this setting on my Auber WS-1510ELPM. If P=0 no matter the other I and D settings, then it's an on off controller at set temp. In the setting above the controller is full power closed circuit 1 degree below set temp then 1/2 degree below set temp switches for 50% power and off at set temp...

MES Rewire Simple Guide - No Back Removal Needed!!!

I'm glad the info helped! That PID "kit" seems fine but it is not a complete PID controller. You would have to still get a good number of components, a enclosure, and do a little fabricating on the enclosure to make everything install and fit together to make a complete controller. It's a fun...

    Sous Vide Jumbo Chicken Breasts

...so I was wondering about Reuteri Yogurt tartness? I like the tartness, others not so much. I have a 2 quart slow cooker and use my Auber PID controller WS-1510ELPM with their no carryover setting of P=4, I=0 and D=40 and holds to the degree at 110*F. I pasteurize the 2% milk to 180*F...

MES Rewire Simple Guide - No Back Removal Needed!!!

Thanks, definitely good info. I'm planning on the 2 probes, and definitely the free hanging one. One thing I am worried about now, and I just thought of it, but what if my MES heating element is bad, and that's actually the culprit; not the controller?? I need to see if Auber has a return...

Just Pulled the Trigger on Auber AW-1520H

I got my first MES in 2017 from Cabelas on a Black Friday sale for $129 and then got my second MES 30 in 2018 at Walmart on closeout for $69 plus 2yr replacement thrown in for free because it was a floor model.Sold the first one for $50 and few years later found an Auber 1211H at the local...

    MES Randomly Shuts Off

...that is 100x better than your MES when it was brand new. It makes a smoker that performs like electric ones that cost over $1k where an Auber PID only runs about $160. Yeah $160 is no small amount but you really are transforming your MES into a $1k+ performing beast that is really a whole...
