ggod buy. now for the mods.
I've had an OKJoe Reverse flow on marketplace with all mods done fo $250. You wouldn't believe the idiot replies I have received. Pretty good chance none of the F#$%kers have ever used a stick burner. Image before mods
I'm too old and lazy to deal with a stick burner, especially when it's about 5 degrees above hell outside. Smoker has mods like RTV on all joints, lavalock on cook chamber, lid clamps not shown in picture. Listing it for the craigslist idiots for $350 or trade for Smokey mountain 22 that isn't...
I have the OkJoe and have enjoyed it. If it's going to be outside, get this cover for it. I had a factory cover and it didn't last very long. Depending on how much more money you're willing to spend, there are a lot of mods available here. I bought them all and the only one that I'd recommend...
Google and consideer all/most of the mods. I bought the highland reverse flow. I did "lava tape" and RTV sealant on all appropriaet places. also bought lid clamps. I'm probably going to sell mine,as it takes up too much space amongst my other 6 "appliances". and it's too much work on really...
I'll also suggest the OKJoe Highland although the price has gone up and it's now around $450 new so I would look for a used one that's in good shape. BUT be prepared to spend some more money on mods. :-D
O my goodness. This is so funny and I can sooo relate!!! We bought 2, 7 bone in ribeyes today about18# each. They were on sale THANK GOD!!! We are serving the beef to some highly respected VIP's and I'm already a nervous wreck about ruining these beautiful hunks of meat.
I have an OKJoe Highland. Didn't plan on it but it was sitting on the sidewalk in front of Lowe's on deep discount. If you check amazon, it has fairly good reviews - 4.6 stars. When I bought mine, it was retailing for only $349 but mine was $100 off because it had a badly bent wheel axle...
I just got an older used one cheap, that's solid, and just needs some cleaning and paint I'm interested in any tips on running it. Looking at the design, it seems that it is going to run hot on the firebox side, so it's begging for some mods. Tell me how you run yours, what mods you did, etc.
Dont have the OKJoe highlander but do have an offset braunfel. Ran hot on one side and went through a 20lb bag of charcoal for one Butt burning small wood chunks for smoke. Made it into a reverse flow, got even temps across the cook chamber and fuel consumption is very little now. Now I use...
I've been smoking food for about 12 years, using WSMs. But my family has grown: my three children have gotten married, grandkids have arrived and now for Sunday BBQ, I can add my GF and her kids as well. So as you can guess, the WSM doesn't have the capacity for all of us, and running multiple...
Have you looked into doing some modifications for better heat/fuel management? Here’s a thread you can check out, I’ve never had an Oklahoma Joe, but I had an old BBQ-Chef that was a great offset. I did some of these modifications and it helped. A Charcoal/wood basket would help with getting a...
hey Y'all,
my OKJoe Highland reverse flow finally arrived. I hope to do a thorough review, as i would have like to read one before buying. Buried in work for now which comprises of many reports :emoji_tired_face:
Here's s few lines of initial thoughts. Feel free to ask particular questions...
I went with OKJoe Longhorn RF for now. If we so enough gatherings we will upgrade to a $3k-$4k cooker later. There is a few Yoder Wichita here but way too many issues with them
now fun begins with the Mods. Below is what plan is and could use some help with smoke stack and firebox
Seal...
if i keep posting in the wrong sub-forum please let me know.
this is a quick review of the Oklahoma Joe Highland reverse flow smoker after my first big smoke.
Please excuse minimal grammatical and punctuation snafus. Since my stroke, my typing is excruciating at best and I am relegated to using...
Well looks like I cant find a smoker to rent for Labor day which leaves next best thing and buying new. Planning to do whole hog around 120lb live weight with head and feet removed. Original plan was OKJoe longhorn reverse and do the mods. Dad decided to jump in and said lets do it right with...
SO, I am currently smoking on a OKJoe Highland Offset. I knew whatever smoker I picked out would come with a lengthy wait and didn't want to sit out the Summer. Grabbed this thing from the local hardware store. I have gotten pretty good at maintaining the fire and temp on the OKJoe, yes it...
Do you have a Lowes, Home Depot or Menards anywhere near? I get my Hickory and Mesquite by the bag at HD. Menards sells OKJoe brand. The only issue I've had is that sometimes the "splits" are bigger than I like.
.
I get Ash and Oak from my fireplace woodpile, but they usually need cut down to...
Greetings y’all,
Just a quick update on my attempts to resurrect a garage sale akorn, reaching out for suggestions and maybe just needing to be shook back to reality.
As I mentioned earlier this akorn was a $50.00 garage sale find. Being impulsive and looking for better ways to do things I...
