    Corny fuel idea

A friend if mine had a corn stove for house heat. The ash will make an ash cake he always called a clinker. It would make a clink sound when he popped out of the fire box and into a bucket.

Considering upgrade from MES 30 to Pellet Smoker

I prefer using my Rec Tec 590 for most things. Can't live without the Weber kettle. When it's really crappy out and I get a pork butt on sale I will still use my Smokin-it electric cabinet smoker. Everything ends up filling a need. Pellet grills are great, but not a fix all/end all grill.

Rural King pellets made by Lumberjack?

They look a lot like LJ. I was going to grab a bag or two when my Bear Mountain pellets run out.

    Rec Teq*****

This story is an example why we recommend a Rec Teq grill every damn time a "Should I buy a this Traeger" thread pop up. Instead of calling us a mob or whatever, take a minute to ask each of us what RT has done for us individually. The company is great and per/$$$ no grill beats them. It...

    The "healthiest" pellets?

I picked up some Bear Mountain hickory pellets on amazon $26/40lb since my local lumber jack source has been sold out all summer. So far I am pretty impressed. The pellet size is a little larger diameter, but has been fool proof in my RT590. Flavor has been nearly the same. I would go back to...

Cover for the Rec Tec 590

Double check with a tape measure, but I think any 50 in grill cover on amazon will do. Get one with velcro straps to cinch it up snug. The beauty of the 590 is that it doesn't have the smoke stack to contend with. I would not spend the money on the official Rec Teq cover.

    Which Pellet Grill to Buy?

Rec Teq for the win! Have a kettle around as a compliment grill.

    PID Controller

The Savannah is a nice controller when you get it dialed in. I had one on a Traeger 22. It worked well, but I found I was always playing with the tuneup. You will find that you may have to adjust your settings slightly to accommodate seasonal weather. Other then that, if it's running within 10...

Thought I wanted a pellet smoker.

The first time I saw MB gravity charcoal grill, I immediately imagined RT doing something similar. That would be an awesome machine...... Any RT reps creeping this forum????

    PID Controller

I used a Savannah on my traeger pro 22. It worked pretty well, but the level of tuning it allows was my downfall with it and the grill. It would run pretty tight on temp, then it would lose 15 degrees, then overcompensate and overshoot 20 degrees. Then it would settle back in for a while. 15...

    Traeger

Unwrapped with some frequent spritzing makes a nice bark and a bitier texture. When done right, unwrapped are hard to beat. I tend to wrap because I like being able to better schedule my finish window. Unwrapped can wonder around on cook times quite a bit. It really boils down to repetition and...

    REC TEC Sales?

I had mine dropped off at my work. We have truck dock, so it came freight. When the grill landed in town, the freight company called me and asked about delivery hours and whatnot. I put in on my pickup after work and went home with it. Went really slick.

    Seasonality for Wood Pellets?

Since you are pretty new at pellet grilling, I would hold off on buying a whole bunch of one thing for now. I think most of us end up trying a little bit of everything starting out. I am mostly a hickory guy now, but still rarely buy more than three bags at a time. Sometimes pecan or cherry...

Chimney or Vents...same same or is one BETTER than the other?

I had a traeger with the chimney. No difference in smoke flavor. Rec Tec is more accurate overall in temps thanks to the PID. Rec Tec is warmer to right side, just like the traeger, but to a lesser degree. Someone else's mileage may vary. Back vents are on the smaller Rec Tecs and traegers. Also...
