    ThermoTemp Temperature challenges

Not toothpaste. If it had been that bad, I’d have tossed it. This was just disappointing. You could tell there was orange juice involved, but instead of a bright citrus, it was dull. I’d almost call it bitter - I added some soy sauce and it kind of reminded me getting orange chicken and eating a...

    ThermoTemp Temperature challenges

Looks like it may have been a one-off bad day. It wasn’t perfect but close enough - thermostat set to ~250 and temp held around 265. On the other hand I also learned that while I can put a pan of lightly thinned apple juice concentrate under a shoulder (until 135-145 and then move the shoulder...

Paint peeling on inside of smoker

Alight, it's pretty clear that painting the interior is a bad path. I'll be...generous...in keeping the interior seasoned, Pam's cheap.

    ThermoTemp Temperature challenges

This last smoke was the first time that has happened. I'm hoping it was a one off - I've got a pork shoulder I'm going to get going in the next few hours and will report back with how the temp goes on it. It feels like summer has gone on forever, but I don't recall having any issues last...

Paint peeling on inside of smoker

I have some TSP alternative that I used when I painted my cabinets that I figured I’d spray to degrease and then wire brush it. But if you aren’t getting any rust by regularly seasoning then maybe I’ll be ok.

    ThermoTemp Temperature challenges

I would assume it does, but I’m not sure. It uses a thermometer mounted in the center of the box to maintain a temperature set using the external thermostat. When the box reaches the dialed in temp, it reduces the gas flow to maintain box temp. The idea is really cool - the benefits of...

    ThermoTemp Temperature challenges

I've had a few issues recently with my ThermoTemp, just wondering if anybody has a solution. For the last several smokes (until my most recent), I couldn't get the temp to hold very low. Even cleaning the interior and the temp probe, it was a dance to keep it at 235-250. If I wasn't exactly...

Paint peeling on inside of smoker

Not sure on the etiquette here on whether a three month old thread is considered resurrected or not, but I am having the same issue with my ThermoTemp, like Cabo, with peeling in the area around the burner. What I was wondering is if it would be worth painting rather than just re-seasoning...

Masterbuilt ThermoTemp XL - model 20051316

Cleaning the exterior is easy, but I noticed a little bit of buildup inside the probe. If you used vinegar inside, how’d you pull that off? I don’t see how you could soak it since it is horizontal. Other than the awful waterpan and chip tray, light breeze blowing out the flame, and now this...

Masterbuilt ThermoTemp XL - model 20051316

Ignoring the temp would be fine, but the sweet spot is nearly impossible to find once the temp probe goes. Mine historically ran 25 below the markings until today. Today it has decided that 175 means 150 and 200 means 300. It’s been a long morning of tweaking to find the 179 that means 248-ish...

    Food Safe Gel Firestarters?

So two for a chimney and one full one for the tube? That’s even easier than telling him to squeeze out a quarter dob. No excuse for him to not use it now!

    Food Safe Gel Firestarters?

I should. But he’s 75 and far more likely to embrace the ease of some gel over remembering to refill his propane tank. I’d have beer luck getting my mother to keep a benzene brûlée torch filled. I’ll have to look for those Weber gel packs

    Food Safe Gel Firestarters?

Based on the great reviews here and elsewhere, I picked up a few tubes, one for me and two as Fathers day’s gifts. We’re visiting my dad right now and I gave him his early (the in-law gets his late). The challenge is this - because we were flying out I need to come up with a way for him to light...
