    Looks like you're on the right path if you used the calculator. I would not use 1/8" steel. That's the thin stuff the big box stores sell and it won't last as long or hold the heat as well. If you're going to spend the time and money building it you might as well make it last with 3/16" or even...

    kam59, thank you for the info. I knew you guys would be able to help. I thought it was the scale that made me sick and not the flux fumes. I knew galvanized material releases harmful fumes. Either way I weld with a respirator every time now and I normally grind the scale off the joint I'm about...
