    New element for ECB

So as I type this I've got a pork shoulder in the electric ECB. It's kinda cold down here in Texas 40 degrees this am and my ECB just won't get to temp. I've had it on since about 4 and its 6 now and it's only gotten to 212. The element is glowing red but still not getting hot inside I have...

    ECB tripping GFI.

I've had my ECB for less than a year and recently it started tripping the GFI. I figured the GFI was worn out so I replaced it. That lasted all of 20 minutes and the new one started tripping. I also get a mild zing when I touch the unit sometime. I can't see any place where the element is...

    Ribs came out harsh/bitter.

Ya the smoke was thick it wasn't blue it was boiling out. So we'll chaulk this one up as a learning experience!!! So I don't really need a big bellow of smoke during the smoking stage? I'm still new to smoking so be easy on me. I'm only going off of what i've seen at bbq's and such. Less...

Wood chunks per smoke in ECB?

Over the weekend I had a failed attempt at ribs. I might have over done the smoke and so I ask this question. How many chunks of wood do you typically place in your smoker over the entire rib smoke? I smoked with red oak and mesquite starting off with about 6-8 chunks and then a couple hours...

    Ribs came out harsh/bitter.

Cooked 2 slabs of pork ribs today using mustard base and Jeff's rub. Smoked using my electric smoker with temp ranging from 220-240 using mesquite and red oak as smoke wood.. Cooked using the 3-2-1 method and the ribs not only didn't get a good crust but the taste was harsh almost bitter. Any...

    Auber Premade smoker controllers?

So I notice that they offer the regular and 1800w version. my element in my ECB is 1500W so i'm thinking I would need the larger one but wasn't sure if I would be better off going with the smaller dual probe model and changing my element to a hot plate or something. Just thoughts. Thanks.

    Auber Premade smoker controllers?

Awesome thanks. Do you have the single probe or double probe version? Also how well does the temp/time feature work? My thoughts were that i could put a pork shoulder on the pit let it smoke for a couple hours then lower the temp to basically keep it warm till I get home.

    Auber Premade smoker controllers?

in looking at the Auber PID controllers I stumbled upon their premade setups. Has anyone used one of these and how do they compare to buying that parts and making one yourself? Heres a linky. http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=8&zenid=d6ec6431f35e91b86e97f81c102b9dab

    regulating temp on ECB.

So in my brief reading it seems there are several ways to regulate temps on these little guys. I have been simply running the variable speed router control and chasing the temp. I use a maverick dual remote thermometer. Seems some folks have used thermostats with some good success. Can anyone...

what dimmer switch would you guys recommend? Isn't the router speed control a big dimmer switch?

    regulating temp on ECB.

So you smoke with chips and not chunks? I had heard of guys putting a pie tin on the lava rocks too. Also do you just plug yours in straight in or do you have some sort of way to control the electrical current going to the element.

    regulating temp on ECB.

I've got an electric ECB and love the convenience but am having trouble keeping the temp down. I bought a harbor freight variable Router speed control(rated 1500 watts) and it has helped but it seems that as soon as i crank up the dial past low it climbs up to 250 and I have to basically turn...
