Help! New and lost.. Apple Cider Spray???

Just my two cents. I don't spray my pork butts. I smoked two pork butts this weekend. Cooked then at 225f. Gave them smoke for 5 hrs. Then cooked them on the grate until IT of 180. Then wrapped in foil and brought them to 205. They were moist as can be without spraying. All the fat in the pork...

    Pork food safety question

It ended up taking 5 hrs to hit the 140 IT. Is it edible or should it be discarded?

    Pork food safety question

I have a pork but that has been in smoker for 4 hrs 15 min and it's only at 130 IT. I inserted the probe shortly after I placed it in the smoker. Usually make it over the 140 mark with no problems. Do I need to throw this away? I have a second one that wasn't probed until the 4 hr mark when I...

I'm abandoning ship in favor of another!

I actually have found and read that post several times Dave.  It's some very handy work.

I'm abandoning ship in favor of another!

At this point I'm debating on getting the PID and wiring to the 800 watt element and if I don't get the results I'm looking for then I will upgrade the burner. Time will tell I'm still in the research phase

I'm abandoning ship in favor of another!

I have a new one. Bought it in November 2013. I spoke with masterbuilt customer service today and all mes 30 come with there 800 watt element. They also informed me that the mes 30 is only wired to handle the 800 watt element. But with a PID u eliminate all there wiring anyways so not an issue...

I'm abandoning ship in favor of another!

My element currently still works but I did 17 lbs of pork butt the other day. It was 10 F and windy and I couldn't get my smoker temp over 200 f. That's why I am debating on the larger element. I'm sure the 800 watt element that comes standard in the mes 30 is fine in the summer. But in Vermont...

I'm abandoning ship in favor of another!

Ok thanks. I have read several of the PID posts and haven't found the burner yet or overlooked it. I will continue the search. U answered my big question. I wasn't sure if the higher wattage element would mess up the mes 30 but from the sounds of it it isn't a problem. Thanks

Tom what size element did you end up purchasing. You got it directly from masterbuilt?? If you don't mind what did they charge you for the higher watt burner. I have been debating on going that route myself just haven't made the jump. Thanks for any info you can provide

    The "No Name" smokehouse

Hey npellegrene I don't know much about cypress wood but I'm guessing he out a protective coating on it. Just wanted to point out that this post is 2 years old and the poster hasn't made a post since 2012 on his account. Just FYI I wouldn't hold my breath for him to respond. But don't let that...

cleaning the glass on my MES?

Never tried vinegar but a method I fund that works well is using the ashes from your ash tray. Take a damp paper towel dip in ur ashes and scrub. Takes it right off. Then just take a clean damp rag and wipe the ash residue off. It will look

Questions on first time ribs in new smoker

I did some ribs the other day that came out similar to the way u are describing. Looking back on it know I realize the mistake I made. I usually do baby backs using the 2-2-1 method. Typically I fool them and add a foiling sauce. And I place the ribs meat side down in the foil. This last time...

Had time to smoke the last couple days, the end results are some delicous chuck roast and some sharp

I thought I was going to be eating the whole thing by myself so it appeared to be plenty.  But while it was smoking a couple friends stopped by and I invited them to stay for dinner so it all disappeared.  It was good everyone enjoyed it and that's all that matters.  I had enough left for lunch...
