I've been thinking of this feature for a few months now, but I was mentally trying to tackle it from another angle and ultimately decided to forget it because I wasn't sure if it would work and it was going to get really expensive.
I couldn't find a gas/propane electronically controlled valve...
Thanks! Right now it might be cool looking, but it's absolutely frustrating to figure it out. Nothing worse than running a smoker for hours and hours, and then you taste the final result and there's hardly a difference between smoking and cooking in a oven.
Part of the reason I went with the...
I went outside the other day and fired up the smoker (without food) and AMNPS tray to see if I could think of more solutions to the problem. Before I even plumbed the wood smoke from the AMNPS tray, my cook chamber was pouring smoke out of the stack and back vent. And it dawned on me...the...
I run the same needle valve config as kampmann17 and I've had zero issues with flame blowout when running as low as 225F. With my particular needle valve (can't speak for the more common Bayou Classic version), I can bring the flame down a lot lower and probably get into the high 100s, but I've...
When I did mine, I saw posts 21 and 23 in this thread: http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/188229/needle-valve-mod/20 and I liked the idea of adding more length to my propane hose so I went with that. I'm really happy with my setup and I can nail the common cook temps like 225, 250, 275 without...
Nope, I don't have a preference for heavy smoke flavor...I'm just not getting very much smoke flavor with the AMNPS! The first few runs I've used Todd's applewood pellets.Over the weekend, I went with a 50/50 split of applewood and Pitmaster's Choice (lit from both ends). I guess the one thing...
I picked up a Masterbuilt Dual Fuel propane 2 door smoker at the beginning of July and after the first few smokes running apple wood chunks in a cast iron pan, I decided to try out a AMNPS pellet tray. The goal was to try and get a longer duration of "unattended" time where I wouldn't have to...
From what I've seen, there isn't a regulator assembly with needle valve that you can purchase and install as easily has installing a needle valve yourself. It's a pretty fast process that I'd say takes maybe 10 minutes going slowly, including the time it takes to do a soapy water leak test.
This is a really common problem with this smoker (I own one as well). To get temperatures into the 200-250F range, you'll have to spend a little money and buy a needle valve which gets installed inline between the propane tank and the burner. If you search "needle valve" on this forum, you...
