When you say preheating to create a updraft... I get mine up to temp then I start.. how long does it take to preheat to get a updraft? Maybe that’s what I’m missing...
I too have the AMPT’s but not the tube but the flat one... I have tried my vents open on the bottom and chimney wide open...and closed part way ... smoke still dives down as soon as I close the door... where do you put yours in your smoker?
Hey guys, I’m having trouble getting smoke going... my Pro 44 worked ok with wet chips but wanted something that would last longer.. went with Pellets.. then tried the mail box modification... it really put out some beautiful smoke until I turned on the gas... the smoke got sucked right down to...
I have the SH 44 and was wondering the same thing... I place my AMPNS on bottom shelf, right hand side and only fire left side burner... Could not keep it lit.. Followed the lighting instructions to a tee, but once I placed it in the smoker it went out..any ideas...

I also just started smoking with my SH44 and do far love it... I live in Michigan so I know what you mean Gmiller.. I went to Harbor Freight and bought a welders blanket.. Seems to help a little... When I smoke I also remove the lids of my chip pans and use chunks of wood... Seems to smoke...
I'm a toolmaker for General Motors... Been there 39 yrs. Work at the Flint Michigan Truck plant. We build 3/4 and One ton Chevy's and GMC's. Just got my first Smoker 2 weeks ago... Having a blast figuring what to cook next..

Question.. I just put my SH Pro 44 from Sams together The grease tray underneath does not even cover half the hole.. Anyone out there do anything different down there... Thanks for any and all ideas...
Thanks Guys, still don't have my smoker yet.., waiting for my birthday this month... Now I'm looking at the Smokey Hollow at Sam's club.. Doesn't have two doors but has two chip trays... Gonna invest in a amazed pellet smoker for sure... Might even do the mailbox method also... So many tips and...
