Jerky Cut across or with the grain

I always cut with the grain for what its worth. Except for deer, that gets ground and use the jerky gun.

    Propane grill recommendations

Get one that is ALL stainless steel and brass burners. I learned that lesson over the years.

    Free basic recipe manager

My wife and I are still old school. She has most all of our recipes in books, including ones from her mother and from my grandma. Both are hand written and my grandma's call for lard in most of the recipes.

Featured Pulled Pork For My Daughter!!

Looks great and am glad your daughter is back on regular diet. I feel for her as I was on a liquid diet way back in my high school days for 10 days. I couldn't imagine doing more than a month! I haven't eaten jello since.

    And now a random photo

I'll play... Most folks think this is a picture of a bear, but it is our pup Tuco. For some reason I can't make the pic larger?

    Inexpensive sealer advice please

I have a Cabela's sealer I got over ten years ago. It is their commercial grade line and would have been a lot more than I wanted to spend had I not worked there with the employee discount. Never had a problem with it after all these years. I have ran it for over an hour with no breaks and it...

The Economy of making your own Meat.

Caught my first first fish on a fly rod at 4 or 5 years of age. Started hunting at 12. Still do both today and make sausage from most of the deer meat. Smoke a few fish every year. Deer and elk jerky. As has been said, better than what you can get in any store. Used go out to eat BBQ now...

    Halibut Fishing!

The closest connection is the US Navy, though that was back in the the late 80's I believe. We fished off the back of the boat...err...the stern. Anchored out in Prince William Sound during the clean up after the Exxon Valdez oil spill. We caught a few halibut and cohos but a lot of cod...

There's snow time like Spring time

Went camping probably 20 years on the western slope with family, to include a cousin and his family from Louisiana, in early to middle June. Elevation about 9400 feet with beautiful weather. I want to bring my cousin up to a beaver pond to catch some brookies. Him and his son, me and my son...

    Survived a week in Vegas,

Went last year for one very specific reason, to watch the LSU/USC football game. My wife was very happy to tag along but not for the game. The game was too loud, everyone either recording the game on their phones or looking at their phone between plays. Concessions were ridiculously priced...

There's snow time like Spring time

Woke up Friday morning and it was snowing. Went to bed and it was still snowing. Woke up this morning and still snowing. We ended up with about 4 inches on the ground, but a lot of it melted when it hit the ground on Friday. No pics, though. The snow was well past due as we didn't get...

    This is a test...

Frost on the trees. Most of the snow melted off a couple of weeks ago. Took the dog for his morning walks and was greeted with the frost on all the trees. Don't worry, we've had a few snow falls since this picture was taken. More to come as we get snow through until the end of May usually.
