Hello 084runnerltd! Seems your pretty new around here, so first off, welcome!
The maze type smokers are the AMNPS (for burning wood pellets) or the AMNS (for burning sawdust) . The tube is the AMNTS, and comes in a couple of different sizes. I've used both a maze and a tube, and their great! The AMNPS works very well in an MES, although I've heard they can be a little difficult to keep lit at elevations.
You should contact Todd Johnson, who is the owner of A-Maze-N Products. He's a good guy and can answer your questions about elevation and help you get the right smoke generator for your needs. You can PM him here at the forums (his handle is TJohnson) or contact him through their website at
I've been using the 5x8 inch AMNPS, which is a pellet smoker aka maze, for over three years and really like it. I have problems using it with cold smokes so next time I'll try using wood dust instead of pellets. I've been told dust burns better at colder temps. The AMNPS uses both pellets and dust and Todd sells both.
I found wood chips way too much of a hassle to use for smokes since I had to keep refilling the wood chip holder every 20-30 minutes.
