I am smoking my first brisket for the 4th. I have a Masterbuilt electric smoker. I bought a 8# packer and it don't fit on my racks. Can I cut part of it off and which end should I cut. Thanks for any help.

^^^Exactly^^^

And if you're wonder what they're talking about or how it can be done, I trimmed and separated a packer for a smoke on my brinkmann gourmet awhile back (15.5" grates)...HERE

Hmm...I just looked at that thread again...did burnt ends from the point, sliced flat and smoked beans with bacon, also.

HERE is a bit more details on burnt ends that I smoked once upon a time, if your interested.

btw, both are kinda lengthy posts...lotsa pics and step-by-seps, so enjoy!

You can lay the flat and point cuts diagonally in smaller vertical smokers and they'll fit nicely if it's not a monster...well, let me say up to about 14lb (pre-trim/separation) should work.

Have a great 4th, and smoke!
