Bought a 3 pound deli cooked ham at a Amish meat sale ! wanted to experiment! Cut the cooked ham in half ! Coated one half with garlic and black pepper and the other half with maple extract and brown sugar ! Into the mes it went ! Smoked with apple chips for four hours started at 140 degrees and increased by 50 degrees each hour ! pulled at 165! Turned out absolutely awesome ! Sorry no pics of the sliced maple because we devoured it all ! Anyways wish I had more pics Absolutely fantastic ! I will watch for deli sales now when cheap will buy the whole piece and convert to awesome!

Looks delicious!
But with the new USDA guidelines you only have to take the ham to 145. We pull our’s out at 138 & a short rest on the counter will bring it up close to 145. It’s much juicier at that temp. You may want to give that a try next time.

Was wondering about temps ! Because technically it was all ready a fully cooked product !

Looks so yummy! The final result is just mouth watering! I'm really curious how does the one with maple extract taste. I've never imagined that a sweet syrup can be combined with meat. Still, I like to experiment while cooking. My favorite recipe of all times is the swiss steak recipe inspired from lolacovington.com. It's extremely easy to cook if you follow all the steps given. You don't have to worry about the cooking time because this method is of slow-cooking, and you'll definitely understand when it's ready. Anyway, can't wait to try your recipe with maple extract!
