Has anyone every did eye of round roast for pulled beef? I have seen people do chuck roast but what other cuts can you use? Wanting to explore using cheap cuts.

I don't think your going to find a better cut of meat for pulled beef than a chuck roast.

If you try to take a round roast to the point it will shred it will be dry & stringy.

The best use for a round roast is take it to med/rare & slice it paper thin for sammies.

Also would you swing by "Roll Call" & introduce yourself, so we can all welcome you to SMF!

I wouldn't try it, Like Al said it will be dry, there's just not enough fat in it. But they do make great jerky.

Chuckies are HARD to beat for shredded beef, brisket isn't bad either!

People do use EOR for shredded beef, but they have to slow cook it for a LONG time, and as others have said, it gets really dry when you do it that way.

My wife always use to buy eor for the crockpot they were terrible! Finally got her using chucks after about three years of suffering.

I have one right down the street. I'll check them out and see what they have. I've seen round bottom roasts in there for sure

I think I did one on my 3-4th smoke. It was about 2" thick and was a it weird. The fat between the meat was more like a soft Gummy Bear. I ended up pulling the meat from the fat like they were little straws from a box. Weird, but it tasted great. I've since learned that's what happens when you cook to time and not to temp.  ; ' )

Lol. Chuck it is. Thanks guys.
Shop the sales and throw a couple in the freezer. You won't be disappointed. And don't forget...

What about a rump roast w/ fat cap? to Lean? I am not a big beef consumer as we live on wild meat for our red meat (preference). On occasion we will get steaks when going out for dinner, Or winnings from the local lion's club meat draws.

Meat draws?!?! That's awesome. I wish our stores here did something like that.

I think I would like to do roast beef with an eye of round.

churchcap:  I'm not really sure (don't remember) why I did that cut of meat.  I was probably excited to just smoke anything.  As an afterthought, I'm really glad I didn't find any roadkill. ; ' )
