Michigan-Florida
Its winter so I'm in central Florida. When spring blossoms I'll be back in the upper part of lower Michigan. Retired a few years back and now have the time to do what ever catches my interest. Currently its smoking meat of many varieties. Have a Weber, small offset smoker, and a 250 LP tank turned in a smoker that turns out some decent Q. One challenge yet to be attempted is a hole pig and that is just a mater of time.

Last year I found a 250 LP tank while in Florida. Since I was having trouble finding a tank that size in Michigan I loaded it into a trailer that was heading north. Once back in Michigan into the barn it went for some hacking and whacking. Thanks to the local junk yards in the area and some elbow bending it came together. It was fun coming up with a design and making it work. Don't think there is another one like it and not sure anyone would want one but I have fun with it.

My design came from attending a BBQ contest held in Lakeland Fl. I looked at all the smokers and decided what I liked and disliked about each one. Found the people very friendly and willing to talk about the strong points and weak point of their units. sketched that smoker out at least a hundred times. I think it helped not being able to start on it until returning home in the spring. Gave me lots of time to read sites like this one and make notes.

If anyone is in the Charlevoix MI. area write me a note as would like to meet some people with the same interests. In the spring that is.

Hi Q-less,

First time I heard of Jambo pit's is when you posted. Is that a double reverse? If it is I'm sure it cooks great as they are reported to be the best at holding constant temp's. Its also reported they are wood hogs. Which is not all bad hotter fire less smoke. I just didn't want to purchase that much steel. If you don't double line the fire box it looks rough from lack of paint. The double reverse plates are not cheap. Please don't take that as a slap for those who have one they are a great unit. Just for a back yard boy I wanted something a little easier and less work to build.

No, mine is closer to a "Real Grill" made in florida. several people had them in the lakeland contest and I liked the concept. No external fire box. Saves a lot of steel and heat.

My parents are in Bellaire.

I'm not far from there live between East Jordan and Bellaire. Just use Charlevoix because most people know where that is.
