Hi im looking into one of those tomato strainer attachments for my meat grinder.
I see that Weston has a size 5 attachment reasonable but i dont want to order it until i know I have the right size grinder. Is ther a way to measure the plate to find out the size of my grinder? thanks for your help.

sipp, morning....  Not sure but measure the diameter of the grinding plate itself and measure the inside diameter of the nut that holds the plate inside the grinder...   see if one of those numbers matches the strainer attachment....   Let us know what you find out....   Dave

Sipp.... I'm thinking again.... UGH....  The tomato strainer attachment has a screw that forces the tomatoes into the screen... Your grinder will have to mate to the screw to get it to function properly.....   I think you will have trouble finding one that is made specifically for your grinder...  Something on the line of this might work....  from tomatoes to spuds etc....

Here is an example of the screen and screw for the Kitchen Aid Mixer.....

I am not sure where you plan to get this from, but I have used Everything Kitchens many times and their customer service is awesome. Great prices too

I replied after seing Chef jj' post and did not even see your second reply Dave.
i think you are right about my grinder im not having any luck finding anything like that except for the weston #5 that would probally only match up to the weston grinder. I already have an OXO food mill from communist China. it works good but is labor intensive.
thanks for the help guys. Maybe I can get my kids to turn the crank for me. They love the automatic apple peeler/corer but i dont think this will hold their interest as long.

Here's my 'secret' method of processing tomatoes in a food mill.
Makes it super easy and limits cook time/reducing time too!!!
Don't tell anybody!!! LOL

Wash tomatoes thoroughly.
Place tomatoes in the freezer on sheet trays or similar so they don't stick together, freeze until solid.
Remove tomatoes from freezer, and rinse each under cold water very briefly, just until the skins easily slip off.
Cut tomatoes at least in half, but dicing works best.
Place in a colander and let drain at least over night, this gets rid of a large portion of the liquid and thickens the sauce. The resulting liquid can be used as a tasty clear consomme.
After draining, place in the food mill to remove the seeds.
Super easy, and the milling is a breeze because there's no skin to deal with.
Works like a charm.

Have fun!
