Thinking about buying an AMNPS for my electric smoker and see they come in three sizes. The smaller ones come with saw dust and are called just a maze n smokers. My question is has anyone, or can you burn pellets in the two smaller dust units ? I want to use pellets if I get one.

There are two types that Todd offers.

AMNS - This is a sawdust smoker basically designed to be used for cold smokes. I use mine for both cold and hot with great results but it is going to depend on where you put it in the smoker.

You can use pellets but you and only use them every other row so they don't jump across

AMNPS - This is the pellet version for hot smokes or cold smokes and can burn both pellets and dust without any issues.  If you can afford it this is the unit I recommend. I use the pellets for hot smokes but when doing cheese, I don't want the heat the pellets put out so I burn dust.

Hope this helps and send me a PM if you need more answers

Thanks Scarbelly, I think you answered my question, I quess the dividers are different in the pellet smoker to keep it from jumping across.

Exactly - the AMNS are vertical dividers and the AMNPS are slanted to allow airflow and keep the pellets from "jumping" to the next row

Thank you both for the questions and answers as I just order the kit for pellet smoking. Get great info just by searching and reading answers. Glad I found this site.

Have a great day and a better tomorrow.

For the last few years I have used a homemade version of the pellet smoker in my cold smoke unit and figured I had it going on.  Well, that was until I went to visit a friend of mine that had one of Todd's AMNPS units...

I was AMAZED (no pun intended) at how well his unit worked, and he got WAY more burn time out of his than I did with my homebrew unit...

I have ordered 2 AMNPS trays and can't wait to use them this weekend for some cheese and sausage!

Great stories! I hope more folks will share their secrets to success, because mine has been hit-and-miss far too many times. Maybe it only works with certain units, and that's why some of us are still not convinced this is the best thing since sliced bread?

Best thing since sliced bread?  NOPE!  Good way to cold smoke?  YEP!

Will replace a wood fire for BBQ.  NOPE!  Great way way to add smoke flavor to BBQ, YEP!

Not only cold smoke I also have the tube smoker and it's great in the GOSM hot smoking I'll never buy chips or chunks again for it.

I've had great results with both. The small is used for all my cold smoking. The tube with pellets I use in my weber gas grill leaving one burner off. and putting the tube there. Super products. Van

What torch should I buy to light those bad boys?
I heard a rumor that you had to use the A-MAZE-N-TORCH or the pellets and dust wouldn't burn!

Seriously, any torch will work,  but if you need to purchase one, why not support a sponsor?

Don't know how but I lost my AMNPS, right about the time I bought the tube smoker, rather than replace my AMNPS I bought a second tube smoker and use both of them in smokes.

They seem to have more consistent smoke, the downside is that you have to break open the smoker about every 3 or 4 hours to replenish pellets on long smokes.

In my MES 40 I just break a charcoal toss small chunk into the factory smoke tray give it a few minutes and then toss it in the tube and walk away works great for lighting the pellets no need in the torch

I did the charcoal trick today - it worked fine.  I do need a big torch though for the garage so I can heat up those stubborn bolts on my truck.

Are any of you guys from canada? And have you ordered an amnps? If you have did it cost you a fortune to get it shipped or is there another place in canada to order them.

there is a place called Ontario gas barbeque in Vaughn or Concord. They sell the Amazen tube and tray smokers. Not sure what the shipping charges are though.
