Trying Jeff's Smoked Rib Planks - Now With Q-Views

    Father-in-law is coming into town and he is a rib fan.  I wanted to feed him something different so I'm trying out Jeff's rib planks.  Here is the link for them: http://www.smoking-meat.com/august-2010-smoking-rib-planks-and-chicken-bites

    This is my practice run before the big show.  It's also a chance to try out different rubs.  I'm not doing the brine version because I'm looking for a Memphis Dry Rub feel.  Here are the rubs I'm trying and what I'm doing with the left over bones. 
     

    I'm also doing tangy smoked cabbage wedges.  I included a pic of the super secret cabbage marinade ;)

    Wrap that sucker in foil and let it smoke, it's delicious!  You don't taste the cabbage, just what it is marinaded in.

    Loving all the cabbage goodies that yall are showing!  I have some huge ones waiting to be picked in the garden.

    Want to try something different with them.

    The rib planks turned out great.  I think my favorite was the Corky's rub, but I didn't get a chance to taste the Rendevous rub because my wife got to them before I had a chance LOL.  They weren't "fall off the bone" like I like, so next time I'm going to 2-2-1 them.

     

    I put the scraps and extra bones in the the black beans while they smoked underneath the ribs... DANG they were good!  Much better than my last attempt (didn't post on them for good reason).

    Black beans, onions, a little hot sauce, garlic, salt, and the secret ingredient...

    I bet next time you don't wait to get a Rendvous rib until after you take the picture.....LOL! Better yet put the wife in charge of pictures......

    Beans do look great. What is the main liquid in the beans? Ketsup?

    Oddly enough there was no catsup in the beans. The red was just some rub I threw in it and all the drippy goodness from the ribs. I made some navy beans last time and they were good! I'll post something on them later.
