Gotta do anything different with a smaller butt?

Got in on the Omaha Hy-Vee Boston Butt sale today. All of the butts they had were smaller in size so I bought the biggest ones they had. I've got 5 butts in the 3.8 - 4.2 lb size range. I'm used to smoking a 7.5 to 9 lb roast so I was wondering if I should foil these a bit sooner than 170 to keep them from possibly getting to dry. What? Too much smoke ring...Is this even possible? I'm open to your suggestions and coaching. Thanks guys.

just kidding, had to say it.

I actually did a 3.2 lb shoulder roast yesterday, It ran they same as a bigger butt. I was surprised at how it took almost as long as a biggie too, it had a 3 hour stall at 156f.

It's all about the temp brother.

yeap.........brine it..........and cook to temps.............3.5lbs, ballpark time......5-5.5 hours

foil at 170........you will be fine..........

"I like big butts and i can not lie" That being said it should be no different except the time it takes to cook it. Then again every piece of meat is different. I have not had one yet that hasn't had a stall. They tell me that just makes em better. I can't argue otherwise.

SG.........you should of been with us at the gathering........2 10lb briskets and 2 8 lbs butts.........put on at 11:30 pm friday nite, and ALL was done by 7-7:30 AM SAT MORN.......none of em stalled........and i got witnesses........LOLOL

smoker temps i had a HECK of a time just to maintain 250
