I went to Wal-Mart to try to find something to let me reat the temperature in my ECB better and found this and thought it looked interesting so I'm going to give it a try.

The probe goes into the meat and you leave it with the grill while you can take the display up to 100 foot away. So technically I could check the temperature inside my meat in the smoker while I am sitting on the couch drinking a cold dr.pepper(I hate beer) and watching spongebob with my son....lol

When I try it out, I'll post it here to let you guys know if it might be worth the 16 dollars I paid for it.

Well good, answer this for me
can you leave it on the grating just to to record the temp inside the smoker? or should it only be used for checking the temp of the meat. i was hoping for using it for smoker temp, but if i can't then i'll use it for the meat. If it can be used for both then I will go get another one so I can check on both.

I'm glad my 16 dollars wasn't wasted then.
I also got me a flavor injector to play around with.

Ive got one, and I use it to get an idea on how the meat is cooking(i like it, and I think it is pretty accurate), and I use an oven temp. thermometer that sits on the rack next to what I am smoking to keep track of the smoker temp..

I have not tried the boundries of the range of the unit, I leave it on its base, and keep a dilligent eye on it, and the smoker from my drinking chair on the deck.

I never liked the taste of it. I did try some stuff in Marietta, GA that a family member gave me. It is not sold here but it is some kind of alcoholic apple cider drink. I prefer the hard stuff like Jack or Smirnoff. But I very seldom drink

I actually have two of a of a different model (Maverick), and one that is some other brand (don't use it enough to really pay attention.) As far as using a thermo probe to get smoker temp, you have to have it just above the grates, I put mine through half a potato so that th probe is sticking out about an inch above the grates. Also, you need to be sure that it will read temperatures over 200 (You want something like 300+). The one Temp probe I mentioned earlier (the one I don't use) only goes to 200, so it just sits in the drawer, until I need it to measure the temp of some Beans or something.
