When I built my UDS I couldn't find a lid anywhere, so I used a tub and flipped it over and added a handle and vent. Here are some pics with a smoked pork loin using apple wood. it could not have been any more tender.
Yes, but I read somewhere for galvenizing to get someone sick it had to be subject to at least 800 degrees for it to burn off the zinc. Anyway I have done four smokes with it and I am alive answering questions so I guess it's ok.
There are plenty of threads about modifying the drum to fit a Weber lid but if a flat lid is ok just check at your local metal recycle place where people sell scrap and ask if they have barrels/ lids.To bad though because I am getting alot of smoke coming out of where the lid goes over the barrell.
I might try and finding where they meet and putting a high heat gasket on the inside of the lid.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
