FYI to whom it may concern: I'm new to pellet grilling. Received a Traeger Junior from the family for Christmas here in Hawaii. It came from Cabela's (freight free) because Traeger doesn't ship to the islands. Also got three bags of various pellets. Got on their website and got all connected. Got the smoker assembled and tested. All was ready to go. Then got an ad from them that their digital thermostat was on sale for $70 with free shipping. Well, yeah, I can do that. So I tried to make an order. Guess what? After about an hour trying to get it coming, I find they can't mail to Hawaii. I quit the conversation to cool off. Their customer service manager sent a msg for me to call and they'd sort it out. So, I called. Guess what, again? They could send it UPS or Fedex ground for about $40. And no, there is no way to mail parts(2# pkg) to Hawaii. I told them I thought that was pretty pathetic. Ever heard of Flat-Rate boxes? So they kept sending emails that I hadn't completed my order. After a few more days, I tried again. This time as I made the order, they said they couldn't ship smokers to Alaska(my other home). This order is NOT for a smoker. Finally got past that. I'm having the pkg sent to an Oregon friend and he's gonna mail it to me. A little history here about this humble writer: I was a factory service rep for years and if someone needed a part and the "corporate policy" couldn't figure out how to do it, I'd get it there on my own. Thereby saving the company's rep and mine. My view is that business must be really good and/or they don't care about their rep. If someone had just sent the part in the first place, this would have never been scribed. And thanks for your support. Happy smoking.

What I hope is some good news for you, I have a Traeger Jr with an Ortech controller for a round 2 years now. I've made everything from ribs, chicken, jalapeno poppers and even a couple 16lb briskets. All were cooked to perfection and It has served me very well. I've moved up to a Rec Tec now but not due to any problem with my Jr. If I can be of any help, just let me know. Best of luck in your future pellet cooking. One bit of advice, get rid of any dial thermometer & get yourself a good digital thermometer. Do a boiling water test to check your accuracy, water turns to steam at 113 degrees at sea level so that's what your thermometer should read close to when dipped in the water. Be sure it can be placed in water too. We look frward to hearing your results after cooking on it.
