Hi I am new to smoking. I have a small hobby smoker that I really enjoy. I find it to small and want to build a bigger one. I have a older fridge that i would have to gut to the tin shell and insulate and line with wood or something for the inside. (does tin foil help inside the main chamber?). I have a old stove I could use for the heat in the bottom and for the chips and wire the controls off the stoves control board.. Ive done some research on building smokers but I cant decide if i want to build one from wood. And if so what would be the best way to add smoke and heat. Charcoal and soaked wood chips?

If I was to use a old stove element from inside the stove would i have to wire it 220 or could I take it down to 110 and run it off of a ext. cord? exactly what would i have to do to wire that in. I have a couple other ideas for adding more heat if needed but should that not be enough to get it around 250-300

Why do you have to gut the inside of the fridge? Is it lined with plastic?

Sounds like you are going to put a lot of work into this... I would suggest finding a commercial food warmer. This way it is already made the way that you are wanting to convert the fridge to. But it would save you all the work. All you would have to do is install some dampers and exhaust. There are many of these builds on here and I find them intriguing.
