After a dozen trips out on the Sacramento River for zilch I finally picked the right day. Managed to land a 12 pound hen full of roe and a 14 pound buck.

There was a little concern about the meat the buck was going to provide, he was a little darker than the hen and starting to get hook-jawed. The autopsy proved out that he was going to be a fine addition to the smoker along with his female river mate

We'll be back out on the river tomorrow after the weekend crowds have gone looking for a couple more fish to load into the Pro 100. It felt great to get some blood on the new boat and learn a few new tricks. One thing was having to pay attention when playing a fish in the river, we've always been used to the ocean where there isn't much to run into. We managed to stay away from running into the bank, but not by much, now we know to pretty much stay in the middle of the river. RAY

Nice work! Yep those river banks will get ya.

I'm on the Ohio Game Fishing board, but I don't fish. I'm there because I run the Friends of he Scioto River.

Yesterday Mrs G and I were on the Sacto river at the same spot that I nailed a couple of nice fish at earlier last week. Suddenly the drag on my reel started screaming and the big Chinese fire drill was on. I handed the rod to Jan  and she was playing the fish while I cleared the other line and then fooled around trying to get the kwikfish unstuck from the net, still trying to keep the boat in the middle of the river. Jan's arms started to tire so I took over the rod and got it to the side of the boat where Mrs G executed a perfect head-first netting job. 22.5 pounds, 34.5 inches, our new boat record. This one's a little darker than the two last week but still looked pretty good once the autopsy was complete. Our Thanksgiving Day festivities will begin early tomorrow by firing up the Pro 100 to smoke 25 pounds of salmon fillets. Life is good! RAY
