Hey all,

I just want to thank you all again. I'm usually a lurker around here learning from all the great advise that's freely given around here.

Last week my wife brought me a smokey joe silver she had won at a company picnic. I had it put together and charcoal burning in itminutes. What a fun little grill. The next morning I searched the SJS on the forum and I find the mini section.

I ran off to Target, grabbed the only Imusa pot they had, figuring if it didn't fit I could use it for its real purpose. The pot fit, ( with a little crimping around the top), and it was on sale $17.50.

A few more bits and pieces, extra grates, expanded steel charcoal basket, tin can ash shield, plus a new rib rack, and great ideas from here, my new mini. It's plain, no painting for me.

Tonight's St Louis ribs came out great. The thing held steady between 225 - 250 for 6 hours, without much trouble. Could have gone longer. I'm going to have fun with this!

Now for Q-View. Thank again to all.

Great job.! I love the washtub mod!! A buddy of mine has a wood deck off his kitchen and won't smoke out there. definitely going to let him know about the tub!

Thanks everyone. I can see myself using this little thing a lot. It was the easiest first run on any gear I've got. I'm sure I'll be using it to test a bunch of recipes. I look forward to taking it on fishing trips.

I've just got to come up with a new leg design. The legs are to wonkey for my taste.

Mdboatbum, I saw that tub at the hardware store and thought it was perfect for the mini on the deck. It also worked as good wind protection, and It's great as a table for the SJS if you flip it upside down too. It'll hold a lot of beer when the the big smokers are at workin.:thumb1:

And there was much rejoicing!

I agree on the legs. I am thinking of bending some flat bar to replace mine.
I have bent, and re-bent my legs so many times...

I have been thinking about doing the same thing, or welding some out of rebar. I have a buddy that does concrete so rebar is really cheap for me to acquire.

I just don't trust these legs. I'm also thinking along the lines of rebar legs attached to a ring that the SJ can just sit in. Not unlike a turkey fryer burner.
That was my first thought too, but I'd have any issue with getting around the side vents that I have added. I was thinking of putting the band up high, where the indent is in the side. Suppose I could have the ring be lower.

I like the idea of the side vents. I thought about adding one but decided to wait a use the mini for a while. I see where that could cause some probs.
I like the leg style on the Bodum Fyrkat.
Wish weber had gone that route or stuck with the older solid bar legs.
I'll post up whatever I come up with. It's the top of my list for the mini.

Looking forward to your mod.

Case like the lighter!

It's the only way to light a Mini in my opinion...

The reason I added the side vents is I couldn't get the high temps I wanted at my altitude for certain types of smokes. The most I could get with just the bottom vent was 285 (summer) and 265 (winter, @ 32-40 ambient outdoor temp). After adding the side vents I could get temps higher than my therms go no matter what the outside temp is.

I'll be looking for your legs. Mine will be a bit as I have more than one project ahead of this one!

Thanks B,

It was my first smoke on it. I couldn't be more pleased with how well it works. The ribs came out great.

Thank you again, as I used your build as my template.

I just wish I had time this week to play with it some more. A couple more additions and it'll be finished.

I plan on using it alot. Perfect for trying new recipes and small meals. But I don't need to tell anyone here that.

You used MY build? Well thank you. There are many on this site to choose from.  I appreciate you giving my build a try.

Happy smoking. Be sure to post more smokes!
