I know this is crazy for me asking this b/c I should already know this but am just wanting to doubble check with you all on some temps. I know that I want my butt needs to be at 205 to pull what temp should it be when I foil it? And I am going to wrap it up and put it in a cooler for an hour also. Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Foil @ 165 , pull from smoker @ 200 to 205 let it rest for about 1 hour then pull your heart out .

I actualy like no foiling for butts anymore,,,Take em right to 205 on the smoker... Much better bark in my opinion!! Happy smokes

I smoke mine without any wrap or tenting or anything other than mustard and rub, when I get 190-195, I take it off the Traeger and get to pullin'.

not to steel the thread but i also have a temp question. Butt has been on for 2 hrs and finally the temp is down to 230 or so. took almost closing both vents all the was to get there.
what do i need to regulate this thing.

I will probably get a big come-back on this one, but ...
My best Pork Butt is rubbed with my seasonings, toss immediately onto the Smoker fat side down, on a grid that is @220*F, and leave it "closed-up" for 1.5hrs./lb. of weight, then check the bone. When it pulls without resistence, the Butt is done. Moisture and tenderness assured,as it seems to pull the juices of the fat cap up into the meat. The fat is now a nice crispy Bark.
But, that's just MHO

Have fun and,
