Does anyone konw what accent is ? what ing. can sub in its place? I trying a home made bbq sauce & ran across it .thanks Brian

Its just straight MSG. It adds a richness to whatever you use it on. Its slightly salty but to me mainly flavorless. It does add that rich flavor though. You could probably drop it all together maybe add just a dash more salt and not miss it too much.

According to the Cook's Thesarus site, you can substitute kelp for MSG, but it would guess that if you don't have Accent on hand, then kelp is probably really a long shot. LOL

Anyhow, I would go with what was already mentioned..........skip it and maybe add a little more salt if you don't want to mess with getting Accent.

If it's going into a sauce anyway you also might try a splash of soy sauce instead.
 
My secret sauce ingredient is.... wait for it....


The defatted pan juice/gelatin from a butt or brisket.
