Finally started my 120 gallon vertical build.  I bought a welder over a year ago to build a reverse flow smoker.  Finally got the tank and the build designed.  The details on the calculations and specs are in another post.  http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/256776/new-120-gallon-build-and-grate-question#post_1650230.

The tank was nearly brand new but I got it pretty cheap.  Since it was in such good condition, I felt bad about using it as a smoker. I kept putting off cutting it while looking for an older one.

I filled the tank with water and Dawn and let it sit for over a week.  Got it cut a couple of weeks ago and started the build this week. I've gotten to work on it for a couple of hours two nights this week.

Here is the tank after cutting:

I lit some lump charcoal to burn out the smell some:

Got part of the firebox put together.  It is made out of 1/4 inch steel.  I'm new to welding and have done some practice welding.  Before I started welding the firebox I did some test welds on 1/4 pieces.  The sample welds were much better than my welds in the firebox.

Here is a picture of the cook chamber lines drawn.  You can see the relationship of the firebox cutout to the bottom of the cook chamber door.

Here I got the Hinges welded on.

Here I got the Cook Chamber door cutout.

By the way here is a picture of one of the sample welds before welding the firebox.  I think it looks a lot better than the welds in the firebox.  I think the problem was my gas flow wasn't turned up enough.  I increased it before I welded the hinges

Not a bad looking weld I think your moving to fast and your amperage is set a little low on the welder I'm going to school for my welding certificate what kind of welder are you using

It is a Hobart 210 MVP hooked up to 220.  I had my voltage knob on 6 and the wire speed knob on 60.  The chart in my the manual said for 1/4 inch it should be 6/60.  My gas flow rate meter was reading 20 but I later noticed when I pulled the trigger it dropped down below 15 so I increased it when I did my hinges.

I was using Hobart ER70S-6 0.030 wire.

Thanks for the feedback.
