Well we are pretty much back to normal. I am still working on the email issue which I hope to be resolved by Friday.

I have seen lots of post from different people upset about losing post, points, pm, and lots of useful information. I want to say that I understand the frustration. I lost a lot too along with you guys and gals. That cannot be changed. We do not have the data to restore past 10/10/08 at this point in time. If there is anything that can be done to get that data restore I will get it back. But with the data we have now I do not think that we will be able to recover anymore I'm sorry to say.

That being said. I hope you all understand that everything has been done to get it all back. Going fwd I will be doing backup's of the site to make sure we have it and not just rely on the hosting company to do it for us. If you cannot understand this and are mad I hope you keep your negative comment to yourselves or if you need to voice them you can pm me, email me, or post a comment in this thread. Say it here and be done with it and lets all move on. This is supposed to be a fun site where people are here to share and help and ask for help. If your frustrated with something and need some friendly advise go a head and ask for it. But if your going to complain about what was lost I ask that you don't post it. Again remember we all lost a lot. So you are not the only one.

This is a free site for all to use. Jeff doesn't make anyone pay for being here. Im sure he does appreciate everyone that donates, does a membership, or buys his rub and bbq recipes. It is not cheap to keep a site this size running but he does keep it going.

To everyone who has been patient I thank you. For everyone who has been complaining I thank you too for sticking it out even though you were more vocal about it

. I hope that you can get past the frustration and continue to make this a great site to be a part of.

Thanks

Brian I know you and Jeff worked hard to get the site back up and running and tried to restore all the stuff you could. If thats not good enough or fast enough for people than thats to bad for them. If people are here for post counts and rep points I really think they are missing the point of the site. Helping people and learning about smoking is what I thought we were here for.

Brian, I appreciate all you have done to get the forum up and running.

A big Thank you to Jeff for providing a nice forum for all of us to exchange smoking ideas.

Considering the forum has been around for several years, I'm not upset that 2 to 3 months of smokes were lost. It could have been a lot worse. lol

Brian the thanks belong to you and jeff, you guys did all the work and foot the bills. I personally don't care anything about the points or referrals. All I care about is being able to share what I know and be able to draw off the knowledge of other users. The joke column is a bonus, some good jokes get pasted to hekp bring a laugh or two. A while back some of the more negative people used to get to me, but who cares, I don't live with them.

nope, I would say what you and Jeff did in the last 2 weeks is plenty. Great job.

I just want to say this site has been a great help to me. I decided to pay for the premium just because I think it is worth every penny of it. The info I have gotten off of here is worth much more. I appreciate all the hard work that goes into the site.

I have no points so I won't comment on what I think of them. I think a post count is fine but if it gets reset due to downtime no big deal.

I joined in April of 08. I had done some smokes like maybe 4 a year. I got fired up here and got a MES and I have smoked probably a hundred times since because of what I have leanned here.

Thanks Jeff and Brian for all you do here.

My Thanks to Jeff and Brian for all you have done. Your dedication to the problem has been an inspiration to all of us. I think of those few days last week when I couldn't log on at all. Then I thought about how bad that would be if the site never came back on at all. Now that is a sobering thought.
I am glad that we have a fresh start and an oportunity to rebuild this website up to its former glory and beyond.

Its like the announcer for the six million dollar man always said, We have the technology, we can re-built it. Bigger, faster, stronger, better than before.

I had a high post count, it had nothing to do with either the OTBS, points or numbers. It had everything to do with me being the gabby type and having a lot of passion for this wonderful site and the people on it. I hope that some of my posts and comments either helped people and or amused them. Its about sharing, learning and friendship.
I think I can find and re post most of the recipes I had added to the website.

I’d also like to thank Brian and Jeff for all they have done to get this place back on line. I’m a relatively new member here, having only joined in Oct. 08. But I feel like I fit right in. (still not sure if that’s good or bad J )

I can’t tell ya how much I enjoy the people and all the food talk. Plus the knowledge I’ve gotten from here so far is 10 fold what I knew 4 months ago .

Keep up the good work and
Thanks Again,
Dan

I too would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to Brian and Jeff for all the hard work they have put in over the last month or so to get this site to a place we can all enjoy.

I only joined in early December 08 and fell in love with this site, I too quickly bought Jeff's recipes and bought a premier membership because I see there are tons of things for me to learn and to share.

Everybody on this site has been very supportive and all the advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again to all for the hard work, I am sure I left some people out as I know many more helped getting us back up and running.

While I do appreciate all the work that is being done to keep this site running I still have to say what happened really sucks. A site's main value is the content within it. In that respect, this site was greatly devalued by the loss of data. However, the other asset a site has is the members who create the content. I'm sure we'll get to a point where we were but that may take some time.

I guess there's no use in whining about it. Hopefully policies are put into place so it won't happen again. Disaster recovery planning is a pain in the pork butt but every IT shop has to do it.

OK then -- moving on now.

A big thanks to Jeff and Brian for getting everything back up. This site and its members are 100% responsible for just about all of my continually growing smoking knowledge. I know that the loss of posts and reputation does bother a lot of people. I think what's more important, though, is that you guys have created a whole new generation of smokers (like myself) and no site crash or data loss will take that away.

Seems kinda sappy, I guess, but just wanted to thank everyone again. I'll do my part and bring more Q-View soon...

Hey I'm just glad to be here. Only a member for not even 2 months. I had 50+ posts, uploaded some pics of my first ever sausage attempt. Which by the way was marvelous
biggrin.gif
, and I had several recipes and ideas from several members about making my fridge smoker. Yeah they all vanished with the meltdown. So what. Sure its frustrating, but damm, were just talking about a forum. Anything lost here can always be found again. And anyone who got all bent out of shape about and left, probably wasn't much of an asset here anyhow. I for one, am happy things are up and running again and as soon as I get back from my fishing trip next week, I am planning on making several creations I have thought up over the past couple of weeks and will post them for all to see. Thats all I have to say

Having dropped off the map for a couple of years (just here, still smoked), I'd forgotten how helpful the people here are and how creative you become when you research here. As far as I'm concerned anyone with access to this sit is damn lucky, and should be thankful for any time they spend here. A couple of months of posts and qview missing doesn't lessen the impact on the average joe that's able to look around for awhile and then turn out great smoked meat. Brian and Jeff, you guys are doing an amazing job for OTHER PEOPLE, NOT FOR YOURSELVES! I think we'd all do well to remember that when we get miffed about a few missing post.
GREAT JOB GUYS!

I'm a member and super moderator on a large computer related forum, and they've also suffered data loss from crashes, and corruption. It happens to everyone at some point, and there are always those members who get upset. The bottom line is: there isn't a dang thing anyone can do about it now, we just hope that next time there's a good backup that can get most of the data back (you'll always lose whatever was new since the last good backup - always. RAID arrays can help prevent that, but those cost more, and aren't foolproof either.)

So if you lost something that was important to you, I feel for you. I've lost stuff the same way, and it sux, but there's nothing that can be done about it.

Personally, I'm just glad this site is here. I've benefited quite a bit from it and the outstanding 'regulars' here, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Good place for this .
I need to rant a bit

I'm amazed at the # of posters whining about stuff like lost post counts and rep points
icon_rolleyes.gif

The crying about login troubles while Jeff was looking for a new server that could handle all of our posts and pics was a bit much in my books as well
icon_sad.gif

So we lost a couple months of posts and threads , so what ??? This place goes back to at least some time in '06 . Most questions can be answered with a quick search .

Recipes lost in those months can be re posted and I hope they do.
Rep power , green boxes , and post count , who really needs that stuff ??? As far as I'm concerned a new person just may have as good of advice as a knight in shining armor . ( while I'm gripeing , had to get that out as well )

The Pms being lost , now that gives us something to work on . With luck someone can come up with a simple way to save those important pms to our own computers so that we don't lose them when things crash again ( Murphys law and all that ).

This is a great place with many many great folks . The few with the boo hoo woe is me posts have been getting tireing for me at least. The two days when the move was being made I wondered if Jeff just got sick and tired of the *****ing and shut it all down. From some of the posts I've read I can't imagin what his pms and emails looked like and I wouldn't have blamed him for just pulling the plug.

There , got that out of my system and I feel better now
biggrin.gif

Nice to have one thread to rant in and get it out than peeing all over multiple threads .

Thank you Jeff and Brian for keeping this great place growing

And to all the smf members that really make this place great
