Working on the westinghouse fridge build and am ready to put some shelves in.

I allways thought the rule of thumb was to use stove racks as apposed to fridge racks.

Now that I found this forum and value your opinions. Does it matter or not!

I recall someone posting that some fridge racks have a different coating that can off gas nasty stuff when heated.  Don't know if it's true or not, but I recall seeing it in a post recently.

If it's chrome plated or best of all stainless, I think it would be fine since charcoal grills use them both with no problems at a lot higher heat than we deal with.  And if you are just cold and low temp "hot" smoking (say under 180 degrees) I don't know that it would matter anyway unless the rack had some sort of vinyl or other obvious coating (and we have all seen those in fridges).

If you have a used appliance store nearby (mom & pop type place), you might try there for some stove racks at a decent price.  We have a local guy who picks up old appliances and will put two or three together to make a good one and he is reported to have some of the best odd parts prices around.
