I’m finally ready to buy my first smoker. Been reading on here and decided to get the early model mes 30. I only do small smokes mainly for me and my family so I think the 30” will be plenty I found this and wanted to double check to make sure this is the gen 1 I think you guys call it mes30. That supposedly doesn’t have the problems of the newer one? Says 800watts?

Click on the link below.. with the "square" control panel is the original Gen 1.... check the inside chip pan and chip chute in the unit you are looking at.. If it is a gen 1, you will still need to check the connectors on the heating element ... I would solder them to the element legs or replace them... they are a point of failure... they burn up because of the poor connection... poor connections cause high amperage.. high amperage causes heat and arcing...

Not much Help on the MES 30,but the newer MES 40 gets good reviews & We have sure enjoyed it for about a year now, have seen where people have mentioned they wished they would have gotten the 40 the first time around.

Gen 1 30 is a great machine . Had mine 4 years never let me down . It's like a good dog , just waits for me to return .

Here's some info on all of the MES Units:

As for the MES 30 Gen #1, the Square cornered control box is the early MES 30. Gen #1 The newer MES 30 Gen #1 has the corners rounded over on the control box. My Links above will show you a lot more.
